I am looking at booking the Fantasy for next spring. This will be our 5th Disney Cruise and have sailed the Fantasy once before. However, my kids are getting bigger and my 14 year old DS is now 6' and weighs 190 lbs. He used to be the one to sleep on the bunk but we realized on our last cruise a year ago that he was getting too big. I just learned about the Murphy Beds but I am having a hard time finding information about the size. Would he be comfortable on the Murphy Bed at 6' or better on the sofa bed? I am trying to decide what type of cabin to book. My daughter is not too crazy about the bunk but would sleep there if needed. If he would be better on the sofa bed, her sleeping in the bunk gives us more cabin choices. We discussed getting 2 cabins but we are not quite ready for that. Thanks!

The Murphy bed, as well and the sofa bed, and bunk bed are all twin size. This is on the edge of the bunk bed:

Here's a Deluxe Family Oceanview with verandah room with the beds open:

Mere, I am bigger then your son but shorter. I can sleep comfortably on the sofa bed, but I am pretty much the maximum height that could do so. I would guess that the sofa is 6 to 6.5 feet long.

Murphy is a firm twin, without borders, unlike the couch bed or bunk. So I would be inclined to recommend a Murphy for said son.

Murphy's are only in some Cat 4a -d cabins, and suites fwiw. Make sure you have one before payment. Double verify.
Some cat 4 cabins that sleep 4 do not have a Murphy. Some cat 4 cabins that sleep 4 have a Murphy. Cat 4a -d cabins that sleep 5 have all the beds including the Murphy fwiw.
Be careful.

ETA; See the photos above. The couch and bunk are restrictive. The Murphy is better for a large pax. But it does interfere with balcony access unless the Murphy is in a cat T suite.

I would strongly consider 2 connecting rooms. Our first 3 cruises with our teens were in connecting insides and our most recent we decided to try 1 Cat 4 with the Murphy bed, (our 15 yo is about the same size as your son and he did fine on the Murphy). At the end of that cruise all 4 of us agreed we are going back to the connecting rooms. The verandah was nice but didn't come close to making up for having 2 connecting rooms and a second bathroom.

Our first two cruises were the Dream and then Fantasy. My sister slept on the sofa bed and found it uncomfortable (even though we loved the layout and space of our 8A room). For example, when sitting with your legs over the end onto the floor, you feel the hard side of the framing "shell" it is in, and it can be painful.

Our 3rd and 4th were B2B on the Dream. We went with an 8B that had a murphy bed.

My sister really liked the murphy bed. She said it was very comfortable.

Both the sofa bed and murphy bed mattresses are the same size - twin - but the framing is different (the sofa mattress is IN a frame, while the murphy mattress is on its frame. The thickness may also be different (murphy bed possibly thicker), but I am not certain of that.

For someone who is tall, their feet could go over the end of the murphy bed, but could not do that on the sofa bed due to the armrests.

FWIW, we had the stateroom host leave the murphy bed in the down position the entire cruise. made it much easier if sister wanted to grab a nap or just hang out on it. We did loose access to a few drawers, but not a big deal.

That works OK in an Oceanview room. But, in a verandah room, the murphy bed block access to the verandah door. Well, you can still get there, but you only have about 10" of space to get around the bed, and the bed is pretty much right up against the curtains.

Thanks so much! I thought it was a twin but it looked wider. I was worried about the length.
Starwind, you gave some great points about space to move around. Hanging feet off sounds much better then not having space to move. I think I have decided on finding a room with the Murphy bed. I am checking into 2 connecting inside cabins as well!
