Update - Dateline Disney
Another successful Goofy Challenge under the belt and the streak of six is now complete. *Though between Saturday AM and to day a lot of weirdness occurred. *
The Half - *started in the second corral and crossed the line with folks who were trying to get to the end quicker than I was. *I was lucky and started with a guy in a big, really big cowboy hat and *a wounded warrior who is the only blind special forces soldier. *The first part of the run went well up until about mile four when I hit an unlevel seam in the concrete and torques my inner knee. *Luckily that did not really bother me until about mile 11 and then only a nuisance pain. *Looked at my splits in the parking lot and saw a great race with respect to even 5 k splits. *The 5 and 10 k splits were exactly the same and the 15 was ten seconds slower and the final six k pace was a couple slower. *It was a great sign. *Now on the way back to the resort when I stepped out of the car I felt the severity of the injury. *My knee buckled from a sharp and shooting pain. *I was a little worried about Sunday at that point as the pain seemed to indicate something more than tendinitis.
I took a handful of NSAIDs and went with the group to Epcot to walk and keep the legs moving. *
Sunday - the pain was still present but seemed manageable. *I mapped out exit points just in case. *All seemed well as long as I did not bend the knee deeply like standing from a chair. *I started from the third corral Sunday with the same characters. *I quickly found out that road Canberra would make a difference in the day. *As long as I stayed road right with my right leg lower I could run pain free. *I was good until mile 6 when we do a 270 degree clover leaf turn to the left..... *Forced a walk though the turn. *I met up with Jeff Galloway in the turn and decided that I needed to keep pace to stay ahead of him. *He was running his 18th consecutive Disney Marathon. *Soon began to notice that I was compensating for the knee and my right achilles tendon started to hurt. *I pushed on through mile 14 when it started to become clear that I would make the end even if I just walked. *A sensical man would have done just that... But no I was trying to manage a 5:30 max and still hoping for a low 5 hour event. *It was around mile 23 that I realized that I could then walk and still manage the 5:30 event. **Nope, Galloway passed me about two miles earlier an I was attempting to stay up with him. *
