sit 'n stand stroller??

First, I'd like to say hello and thank you for all the great info and ideas I've found here! I've been a lurker for quite a while and decided it was time to participate and ask some questions -- which leads me to my first...

I would love some reviews of the Sit 'n Stand Stroller. I've been researching these since seeing them all over on our Disney trip last month and it looks like the perfect solution for my middle kids -- DD 4 and DS 2 1/2. There seem to be 3 different ones -- One Step Ahead, Baby Trend and Joovy and I can't decide which! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated since this has now taken up much of my time trying to make a decision.

OH man! WE loved it! We bought the stroller for a trip to WDW when the older boys were 3 and 1 years old and used it for almost 4 years- we walked the poor thing to death on vacations! The three year old was much easier to control because we didn't have to lift him out of the stroller or wait for him to climb in and out of it. It was also easy for us because we could move faster with him on the stroller, didn't have to push a wide double and we knew that he was safe without having to hold onto his little squirmy hand all day long or call him back to us over and over.

The new ones are much nicer then the one that we had. This stroller works great for toddlers as they can decide to face forward sitting or standing- I found that if my oldest DS had a choice as a toddler that he was much more likely to comply with our requests to get on the stroller so we could go see "---".
I never thought that I would be stroller shopping again until our little surprise was born- I'll be 42 this June- youngest DS was a real unexpected super blessing!

Oh, and it is worth your time to get just the right one for you so that you can take full advantage of all the extras that will make the stroller work the best for your family.

we have one of the older ones from Baby Trend. It worked well for us! It's what we brought with us on our kids first trip to WDW when DSs were 21 months and 3 1/2. Used it at the mall and all over too. Great for letting the older one hop out and walk when he wants to so it kept him happier.

Negatives to that model (and maybe these have been fixed in the newer one...don't know!)
-when the child in the stroller is reclined, the older child can not sit down on the little jump seat in the back, they must stand (same with if you have an infant seat on the stroller)

-you can't access the basket underneath if the older child is sitting back there (though it's nice that you can pull the jump seat over the basket and "hide" what is in there. we would take our camera and anything valuable with us and leave the diaper bag in the stroller on rides. If it disappeared it would be inconvenient but not expensive and with it covered, someone would have to REALLY be looking for something to take and would draw attention to themselves in doing so.)

-on this model, the child in the back had to ride facing backwards if he sat. This was not an issue for us anywhere but WDW. DS wanted to be able to SEE going down Main St (can't blame him for that, huh?). We did figure out if we helped him, he could face forward with his feet in the basket but it was a tight fit and we had to help him in and out. Sounds like maybe this is better on the newer ones

If you aren't going to need it for long, you can get a used one of the older models fairly inexpensive now. Ours is going in a yard sale starting at $20. Last consignment sale season, there were a few of them for between $20 and $35.

I miss mine I dropped it off at the Salvation Army thinking it was a different stroller. Months went buy and I could not find it. Then it dawned on me that i dropped it off there. Oh well

We took this stroller to WDW 2x - when our three were 2mos., 3 yrs and 5 yrs. We took it again when the baby was 6 mos. It was super - we literally wore it out. We worked it this way. Infant in seat, 3 yr. old sitting on seat facing frwd. w/ feet in basket and 5 y.o. standing behind. It was great. Those trips were great because they did not get tired and we could go as long as we wanted. We were there for one of the trips for 12 days becuase it was business, or we would not have gone with a 3 mos. old! We would place the diaper bag over the handle so feet could go in the basket.

We bought the Joovy for the sheer purpose of our Disney trip in August. My kids are 2 and 5. The 5 year old is barely small enough to fit in it, but since it'll make our trip to Disney SOOOO much easier, it was worth the money. There is a lifetime guarantee and seems to be built very well. The kids enjoy it. I like how adjustable the canopy is, and how my daughter can hop off or hop on as she wants to. It folds up quite compactly. The only negative things I can think of are that it's pretty darned heavy (compared to a compact one kid stroller, that is), and if you're pushing it on a road that tilts to one side, it's hard to keep it going straight. The steering mechanism is great for non-tilted (to the left or right) spots, though. Go to Babies R Us and give it a test run!

thanks for all the feedback -- I'm sure we're going to buy one, I just need to decide which -- a test run sounds like a great idea.
My husband is going to flip when he sees a new stroller in the garage!!!

We had the Baby Trend model. We loved it. Someone mentioned about having to ride backwards and not being able to see but our DS just sat on his knees facing forward. A problem we had with ours was the canopy, we had to remove because DS couldn't see over it when he rode on the back. This was really never an issue but just something we didn't use. It was a heavy stroller but all in all we really liked it.

We have the model from Onestepahead
Their catalog does not tell you this, but when it comes, it is also babytrend.

Love it. Cons: it is heavy and it does not have a parent tray. I recently saw somebody have one WITH a parent tray and she said she got it at Target. Babytrend would not sell me just the tray to add to mine. Another con is the front seat does not recline flat for a sleeping baby.

We'll be taking ours to Disney in November!

We just went through a similiar search and evaluation for a sit and stand stroller. We went to both Target (for the Babytrend) and BabiesRUs (to try the Joovy). We tested both with our dd3 and dd1 and finally bought the Joovy!

Heres why:

Joovy:
Pros-
Lighter than Babytrend
Easier the fold than Babytrend
More compact (shorter)
Better safety strap for dd3 when standing
good height for pushing
"Cool" looking

Cons-
smaller basket than babytrend
dd3 can't sit down when front seat is reclined (this is the same with Babytrend)

Babytrend:
Pros-
bigger basket
cheaper

Cons:
Heavier
Harder to fold
safety strap not as secure


We love our new Joovy and it has come in handy to push our sleepy children around when traveling. We also received positive questions and complements about it! Here's one vote for the Joovy!

P.S. You can also buy them on E-bay in more "cool" colors. BabiesRus only has red.

I also have the babytrend and LOVE IT! My kids are 4 & almost 2. We also took it to Disney. It was tough to get on the buses (only because you feel rushed with people waiting behind you) but that was DH job. I happened to go to WDW for a day trip and did not have my Sit N Stand. I had to rent a double and besides the $18 price--I hated it!

The only cons are weight/size (but the same as with ANY double of ANY type) and no cup holder. I also have a Mclaren and bought their cup holder which also has a small mesh pouch. It's works great with the sit n stand. It has a place for two drinks and the mesh bag is great for park maps, autograph book, pens, wipes etc. The basket is tough to get to when the child is sitting on the bench but again, not really a big deal. Good luck. I am sure you will love it! My 4yo thinks it's great he can get a ride without feeling like a baby in a seat.

I hoped to make this a short-to-the-point post but I love this stroller!!!

I wanted to add that on the BabyTrend model from Onestepahead, DD CAN sit on the back part while the infant seat is being used and while the front seat is fully reclined. LIke I mentioned earlier, 'fully reclined' is not really full though.

I also bought the mesh bag from Maclaren with the cup holders. DD pretends it is a door she has to push aside to get her her seat since it hangs down and isn't just a tray up top.

I totally agree about it being heavy though and I even said to DH "you're going to have fun lugging this on and off the buses at Disney". But like another poster said, you just feel pressured to do it quickly because of the people behind you.

When DD was a baby (9yrs ago almost) DH picked out a huge Cadillac size of a stroller by Peg Perego that had a stand/seat. You could also make the baby seat/bassinet rock back and forth with the motion of stroller moving, to sooth a fusy baby. We kept it for baby #2, DS, and used it for a short time with both of them. But we found it really heavy and very big and combersome. So we sold it.
But it was handy for two little ones. And it did cost a fortune.

I have a babytrend & loved it when my kids were small. Got it when DD was born & DS was 2.5. It was great to use at the mall or short walks. My DS is big for her age & last summer when she was 25 lbs & my DS was 35 lbs I had a hard time pushing it. I tried using it a few times outside & my wrists were hurting b/c I had trouble steering it. We love our Maclaren umbrella type stroller so, for our trip in August (our kids will be almost 5 & 2.5) we decided to buy a Maclaren Volo & take 2 strollers. I won't take my sit n stand to WDW b/c of how heavy it is & the difficulties steering it.

I just bought one of the Baby Trend models from Target May 1, 2006. I used it "virgin" two days later on a trip to WDW. It was great. For all the reasons you know a sit and stand is great.

Cons:
Front seat is a little tight when getting baby in and out. (my DD is 15 months) Scraped her legs a couple of times.
The upright position was a little too upright.
Really can't access the basket from the back or where the back seat is. The opening is small.
The canopy does not push all the way down. It just kind of stays in an upright position or slightly over the front seat. I actually removed the canopy for my flight and put the carriage into a stroller bag for gate check. I really did not like the canopy. I didn't want to completely remove it though. I mean a little sunprotection is better than nothing.
Back riding kid couldn't really sit facing forward. On knees yes.

Pros:
My DD could sit on the seat when front seat was reclined. Maybe she had a little less room. She didn't complain.
Has a parent tray. I wouldn't even buy a carriage without it.
Folds up with wheels staying on the bottom. I don't like carriages that fold in half and the seat is exposed.
The basket has snaps on either side for access.

I really like this carriage. Only one other thing my husband was running and pushing the carriage and the front wheels started shaking and wobbling. So I guess don't run with it!!!!!
