SINGLES using DxDP

I'm planning my 2nd trip to WDW in 2011. Would like to use Deluxe Dining Plan. Have any SINGLES tried this? How did you enjoy it? And what have you tried at Cap'n Jacks while on plan?

Haven't tried this myself, but the same factors come into play for singles as they do for groups -- does the plan match the way you want to vacation? Do you want 2 or more sit-down meals a day? Do you want to do a lot of dinner shows and/or signature restaurants? Do you prefer ordering off the "high end" of the menu? Do you like both appetizer and dessert at most meals?

I go as a single sometimes. Personally I would never use the dining plan at all, much less the deluxe one. If I don't use it, I have the option of dining at bars/lounges if I can't get a reservation (I prefer that anyway) and I can eat at the Swan/Dolphin restaurants, some of which are better than Disney's. And I don't order appetizer, entree, dessert (it would be rare for me to order that way). I'm more likely to get two or three appetizers and no dessert.

If you've got hold of an old menu at Cap'n Jack's you should be aware that they haven't served lobster tails in 2 years. (Usually when I see people ask about Cap'n Jack's that is what they want to know)

I haven't used it yet, but in another 29 days I will be :p.

Like Faldred mentioned above, it'll work well as long as you're already planning to dine in the way it suggests. For me, I wanted a lot of different places (with several signatures) and I wanted to try the different apps and stuff, so I went for it.

Next trip I'll likely either go QS or none at all though, I don't think I'm going to go this far again any time soon heh.

I solo frequently and have done the deluxe... in fact I'll be doing it again next month.

As others have pointed out, it depends on how you eat and what kind of trip you have planned... I'm not a "parks commando" person but more a "stop and smell the roses' type... I run enough in RL :lmao:Taking it easy and enjoying nice meals is one way to treat myself on vacation... Generally I will have 2 meals a day with a signature in the evening... Depending on where I'm staying I might order room service...

Some people don't like to eat solo in a restaurant but I have to say I love all the special attention I get from wait staff at Disney :cloud9: they always go out of their way to make the meal special :goodvibes

BTW, for me it's either the Deluxe or no meal plan... I find that I really am not a CS person... not into eating off a tray... I like to be waited on! ;)

Edited to add: Capt Jacks isn't what it used to be... I wouldn't waste a credit there. YMMV

I used it last september for 14 night holiday and loved it. I am planning on using it again next year and wouldn't go without it.

Where did you go and what did you have?

Where did you go and what did you have?

I've been to all the signatures in the past at some point but last time since I was staying at BC I went to Yachtsman and had the filet which was absolutely wonderful :goodvibes Dined at Flying Fish and had a delicious swordfish :cloud9:

At DHS, I always eat at Brown Derby which is one of my favorite restaurants at Disney.. last time I tried the lamb chops and they were outstanding. :thumbsup2 At Le Cellier I had the mushroom filet which is always a winner.

At MK, I had the salmon cakes at LTT which were tasty. AK was Tusker House which serves a buffet that is much more interesting than your normal "buffet".

One afternoon I hung out at the pool and in the evening ordered room service, a lovely roast chicken, cooked to perfection :cloud9:

As a diabetic, a good quality protein is a must for me at every meal... I also need to limit the carbs which is easier to do at TS... have always found staff to be very helpful... being solo has never been an issue for me and if anything I think I've gotten better more attentive service because I was on my own...

For me the Deluxe works well... I love sitting down for a relaxed nice meal... when all is said and done, I've done the math and save money... but it really does depend on how you eat...

I have never said I never tried the DDP. I said I don't use it.

I don't use it NOW. I have used it and it doesn't fit me. If most of the signature restaurants do not appeal to you I do not see how the deluxe plan will fit you either unless you eat 2-3 meals per day in one-credit sit-down restaurants and are willing to use some of your deluxe credits for counter service.

I will also post here a reminder that this is a public message board. Posters are welcome to post anything they like as long as it does not violate board guidelines. If you are looking for specific types of answers I'd suggest you edit your first post so that readers are aware of the type of answers you are looking for before they attempt to respond.

I've never traveled alone and haven't used DxDP. Not sure how different it would be from families and couples using the plan, though. :confused3 Unless it's a matter of how you feel eating alone.

You are totally correct - the worthiness of the Deluxe plan is the same whether you are a couple, single, or group (the only exception is that children tend to be a better deal with dining plans, so a group with a lot children is different than a group with no children). You either dine in a way that makes the plan make sense (many TS meals and/or many of the signature restaurants or shows), or you don't.

Where being a single traveler comes into play is if it changes how likely you are to eat the way the plan demands. Which is something only the individual can really answer, anyway.

I've used the deluxe plan twice, and thought it was worth it. I usually has a TS breakfast or lunch, and then a signature dinner. I thought that was the best value, and the perfect amount of food.
