I see a lot of people complain about availability 7 months out, but I'm assuming its mostly people that live far away from WDW and need a continuous stay. If you live an hour away and are totally cool with single night stays in a 1 bedroom or studio, does home resort even matter? I looked over the 2018 availability patterns and it looks like you can at least get a single night during non event (marathon etc) times of the year, but it doesn't specify SATURDAY nights.

Ultimately, I would want to only book only Saturday nights for a weekend getaway. How is the availability for a single Saturday night at 7 months in either a 1 bedroom or studio? I like Saratoga Springs and wouldn't mind staying there whenever. A studio is the same price as booking a 4 star hotel if you own. A SSR resale contract is best for locals correct? I couldn't care less about being blocked from the newer resorts because I already own Wyndham and have all those resorts at my disposal. If I did care, I could also add on 75 Animal Kingdom direct pts for value and club bookings. I also am aware that I can rent out any unused points via forums pretty easily if I don't end up using them all. I already rent out Bonnet Creek all the time.

I know all the ins and outs of the system, just not the availability because I would have to already own to see it. Is at least 1 Saturday a month available at 7 months out most times of the year?

I can answer you question since we have the same vacation habits. We live in Maryland but try and come down once a month... its a work, life balance thing. We usually only stay for one night (Saturday) or two nights (Friday/Saturday) or Saturday/Sunday on a three day weekend. We own 100 points at Animal Kingdom Lodge and 100 Points at Old Key West. Admittedly, I am pretty aggressive and will check regularly for availability, but our general process is booking for the weekends we want at our home resorts at the 11 month mark and then modifying the reservation at the 7 month mark to upgrade to a more desirable location. We have only owned since October, but at this point have bookings for all the resorts, except surprisingly Old Key West. This includes bookings for Aulani, the Grand Californian, and Kilimanjaro Concierge, which was surprisingly book with our Old Key West points at the 7 month mark. We have stayed at all the other Disney resorts. If you are booking one night and look regularly, it is easy to get studios. Where people have problems is booking multiple nights in a row. If you are go with split stays or are willing to stay at Saratoga or Old Key West, you can generally get the Saturday night up to 4 to 5 months before your stay. Hope this helps. We love DVC, our only regret was not buying early. You will really enjoy it!

At this time, I just checked for the upcoming month of Sept. There are no Saturday nights available in a studio or one bedroom. Now if you book at seven months out, you should be able to find something.

I've been keeping an eye on the 60 day snapshot. Studios and 1 bedrooms are are very rare sight at that time

I agree that at 7 months, one would almost always be able to find single nights, although maybe not a Saturday night at every resort. I would be very surprised if there weren't at least one Saturday available somewhere at WDW at 7 months, no matter what time of the year it happened to be.

Addressing part of your question, - if you are booking inside 7 months, then home resort is totally irrelevant. If thats your plan, get the cheapest points you can.
