Since we are the topic of guidebooks....

In the past, the official guide and the unofficial guide seem to come out in mid-September to mid-October. I think the Fodor's comes out around that time as well. The Passporter usually comes out in January.

Most are published in August and September. The Passporter, I believe, is not published until the new year actually begins. In other words, it will most likely have hands-on attraction descriptions for PhilharMagic and Mission: SPACE, whereas the others are likely to be based on preliminary promotional materials.

We have the 2003 Passporter, which was released in February, 2003. The cover of the book says that it has information up through 2004. So, maybe they are making cutbacks too and will not publish a 2004 specific edition.

The reason why it says that on the cover is quite simple: When somebody is browsing in a bookstore this fall, he will inevitably go for the 2004 editions that came in in August/September, and not for the 2003 Passporter. By prominently stating that the book has information good through 2004, they can compete a bit more effectively. I would be extremely surprised if they did not publish a 2004 edition next winter.
I for one am very happy that Jennifer and Dave do not "cheat" by publishing their new editions months before the new year even starts. Even with the disclaimer on the cover, they are still at a competitive disadvantage, but they clearly put more value on accuracy than on maximizing profits.

wdwguide,

Please excuse my sarcasm. My comment was intended to be a tongue-in-cheek reply to the current hot topic surrounding the Disney cutbacks. I was in no way impugning the integrity or motive of the author’s work.

We personally enjoy this book a lot. We used it last year for our August trip, and were chomping at the bit waiting for this year’s edition.

If we can’t take a joke, what’s left
