Am I the only one who's afraid to buy fresh produce of any kind? :confused3 Last night when I was at the grocery store I wanted to buy bagged lettuce, but I just couldn't get myself to pick up a bag. Too scared too. :guilty:

many more people are killed every year from driving in cars.. are you afraid to go in one?
unfortunately, even as tragic as it was, i think the gov't overreacted. how many people were injured or died from faulty tires before ford has to recall them.

I don't find the produce as much a problem as meats, where they can be more prevalent than in leafy items. I saw a show abotu e coli on Forensic Files about a teenager who ate a bit of raw meat and how ill he became, I RAN to my refrigerator and cooked all of my hamburger meat immediately!

I think we will always feel a tinge of concern after a break out like that one, remember the Tylenol scare some years back? This too shall pass.

We go through so much fresh produce in our house it isn't funny. I wash things very carefully and don't really think too much about getting sick from it. We all have healthy immune systems.

If you think about all the people in this country that eat spinach on any given day I'd say the % that actually got sick is very low.

I am feeling funny about it too although, I know, statistically that is probably irrational.

I guess what bugs me the most was our headlines yesterday saying something to the effect of "FDA Deems Spinach Now Safe." And yet the article failed to show that they had determined the cause of the e-coli contamination nor how to prevent it in the future. They just *think* the scare is over with.

I ate a small bite of Spinach while at Disney and my DH freaked. Spit that out!!!! I had to laugh but I'm glad to know he loves me so much. I actually missed the yummy Spinach dip at Disney on our vacation.

I think there are so many "ifs" out there that if you tried doing away with everything we eat that has an "if" we would starve to death.

I'm still eating salads like crazy. Have not had spinach again yet. I miss spinach and will get it again as soon as it is back on the shelf.

I hope this outbreak makes produce safer in the long run by clamping down on safety measures in the industry.

I do remember incidents involving alfalfa sprouts and scallions in the past. Not sure if that was bacterial or parasitic contamination. Their will always be something to worry about!

As a matter of fact, yes, sometimes. I'm the biggest back seat driver there is. I freak out a lot when my husband drives. Although he's a good driver, it's the other drivers that freak me out. I have gotten better over the years though.

Not me! In fact I told DH once Spinach becomes readily available again, we are going out to dinner so I can have my favorite Spinach salad (walnuts, dried cranberries, blue cheese, fresh fennel & a vinegarette dressing) Umm!!!

Nope; had a nice big salad for lunch today. I really hope people realize that this was blown way out of proportion and start eating spinach again. Vegetables are so good for you; why stop eating them? If the mass-produced stuff scares you, head for a farmer's market.

Nope, not afraid of fresh produce of any kind.

Heck, I even ate fresh spinach the day the news broke about the e-coli. I am sure the restaurant did not know. We did not yet know.

We were at DL when the outbreak occurred and a few days later I realized I'd eaten the sauteed spinach with my meal at the Blue Bayou!
