When a Sim buys a cake and balloons and "throws a party" isn't everyone supposed to just "show up?"

I created a new character, built her a new house, and she has three "friends" plus several acquaintances. She threw a party and only a child came, a child she'd never even met!! What's up with that? I thought everyone she knew was supposed to come.

You can also pick up the phone and one of the options should be 'Throw Party'. This feature may come with the House Party Expansion Pack or the Telecom upgrade. I'm not sure.

My phones don't have the "throw party" option so I guess I don't have the right expansion pack. :( I have Unleashed and Hot Date.

You need to select the "Throw Party" option on the phone (assuming you have House Party) After that, it also depends on what time you throw the party (people could be at work) and how many people live in your neighborhood (obviously if there aren't many people living in your neighborhood then you won't get that many guests) Usually what I do is build a house (actually, you don't even need a house, just a wall to put the phone on) and throw about 6 people on the lot. Then you can call them to come over or they'll show up at your parties or even an unexpected visit just to introduce themselves :)

*Just read your reply. If you don't have House Party then you won't have the "Throw Party" option. If I remember correctly you can just put a lot of baloons outside and that should attract other Sims. Just make sure you have enough Sims in your neighborhood. It also wouldn't hurt to call a few people to come over, order a pizza, grill some hamburgers and turn some music on.

Since you don't have the Throw Party option from House Party, just go downtown (assuming the downtown feature is Hot Date) alone and chat it up with a bunch of people. Next time you have a cake they'll all probably come.

She has "friends" and several "acquaintances" that she met in town, probably 15 or so altogether and I waited until evening when most wouldn't be "working." I bought the cake and several sets of balloons, thinking everybody would just "show up" but only that one little girl came, that she'd never even met! The mother, who is one of my Sims "friends" came late to "collect her child because it was way past bedtime", so I can't figure out why the mother herself didn't show up for the party, and her other "friends" too. :( Oh well!! I can't believe how addicting the SIMS is!! What a time waster...LOL!! :teeth:

Gifts work well. Buy lots of gifts and give them to people. The more expensive, the more the more they like them. You'll just have to develop those relationships and invite them over one by one.

Do the friends that you met in town actually live in your neighborhood???

Kids usually tend to come to parties...most kids are all very playful and the "fun" signals that the baloons give off will naturally attract them.
