Simply Amazing

My family was at Walt Disney World 2 weeks ago. And we decided on one of our shopping days to visit the outlet malls and the mouse surplus warehouse.

Well since its 2 weeks before christmas the outlet malls are PACKED. We drove around for about a half hour, searching for a space. Well, i turn down a row and see one. An SUV had turned down the row, the same time I had, and we both saw the space around the same time. Well we both speed off towards the space and I land it first. Well the lady backs up and then CHARGES towards the back of my vehicle, braking right before she hits the bumper. Throws open her door and charges out. I quickly lock all my doors and comes up and taps on my window. The exchange went like this:

her: Um. I dont think so.
me: Excuse me?
her: I have CHILDREN in my car, and I demand this space.
me: well i have PEOPLE in my car, and I got to it first.
her: no no no. I saw it first.
me: there is no way to prove that.
her: We'll see what the police have to think about it.
me: (laughing) CALL THEM! I will personaly laugh at how ridiculous you're being.
her: I saw the space first. Are you going to move?
me: nope.
her: come on. move.
me: no. its a free for all. its a public parking lot!
her: Do the right thing here. I have CHILDREN.
me: nope. im going to go shop.
her: fine. im calling the police (gets out her phone and dials 911)
me: (laughing as I walk away) I hope you enjoy ruining your vacation over a parking space!!

A crowd had gathered, and everyone was laughing at the lady. We waited inside the mall while my parents found a space, and decided to come back and see if that lady was still there. She was gone. And the watcher-bys told us she was yelling on the phone, and then they abrubtly hung up, and she was yelling hello!? into the phone before she got in her car and sped away.

No damage done to my vehicle. So she wasnt completley psycho. lol

Setting a nice example for her kids. You actually could have had her arrested for her little ramming stunt. I bet the police get frustrated with people wasting their time during the holiday season.

I would have given her the space and told her "Merry Christmas, I hope you and your children have a wonderful holiday!"

As a mom with children I know how it feels to be desperate to get something over and done with, especially shopping during this busy time of year. Not saying you weren't within your rights to refuse the space, though... I guess usually it makes me feel good to do the nice thing even when someone is acting poorly. I know there have been plenty of times where I have acted in a way that I was not proud of and felt badly later on because someone let me have my way.

Sometimes it can be just as effective to "kill them with kindness" and it a whole lot better for your soul, too.

I don't think giving up the spot for this person would have done any good. Making her "feel badly later" would have very likely not happened. USUALLY people like this just throw their hissy fits and when they get their way are actually quite happy with what they've achieved and the superior feeling that goes along with bullying someone. What she did was ridiculous and I'm glad you stood your ground.
