Simon,

The 'problem' I've had is I always go to Orlando about mid October. The new edition of the Brits Guide comes out I think the end of October/November.That means if I buy a book leading up to the holiday it will be about to be replaced.Although the main body of the book remains the same,I would still rather not buy a book that will be replcaed with more up to date info.

Judging by the boards October is an incredibly popular time to go to Orlando, have you ever though about moving the publishing date a bit earlier? Or is it a case of you can't please all the people all the time?!

Funnily enough, the publisher has been pushing for an earlier publication date for the last couple of years, and we managed to get the 2003 edition out by the end of October. We are trying to bring the deadline forward by two weeks this year to hit a mid-October publication. The problem is that it is hard to be that accurate this far out, and also that it severely restricts my ability to be as up to date as possible, as an earlier publication date obviously means an earlier close-copy date (i.e. early June - and I like to include June and July news if possible). The other worry is that even if we get it done by then, some bookshops are reluctant to stock a book with 2004 on the cover with almost a quarter of 2003 still to go. All suggestions gratefully received...............!

Thanks Simon:)

Of course the thought didn't occour to me about the close-copy date:( I can see that that affects the publication date especially if you want to include details on June/July.

I can also see the point about shops being reluctant to rack travel guides with next years date as that makes the other guides start to look obselate then.

OK......... get the publisher to publish a tennsy bit before mid-October ,just for me;)

We are going out for christmas this year and as much as I would love to get the new edition Brit's Guide before we go, I know with the best will in the world and at the rate WDW and US change things, it's always going to be subject to change.

My wife is a personal travel advisor, and she urges EVERY client who has booked or thinking about booking a Disney trip to buy Simon's book it is the best ( and easiest to read) destination guide we have read... she lives in the hope that even if they don't believe her that they cannot do everything... by the time they read Simon's book they might realise she's not kidding....keep up the great work ....

Its a hard one. I have every copy of the book from about 1998 I think and yes it would be useful to have it out in the summer, but not essential. Its my bible, and THANKS Simon for all the tips which make all my Florida holidays so darn great!

What about a clear link to the site where you can print off "extra info" that was too late to make it into the Oct edition?? Maybe there could be a plastic wallet or fly leaf pocket at the back of the book to pop the printed sheets in before you go?? Probably isnt cost effective for the publisher though??

Allie,that is a brilliant idea.

What do you think Simon??:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Potentially, it is do-able, but the problem we would have is that it impinges on on 'off-cover' special offers (Alamo, shopping coupons, etc) that currently take up the back (and inside front) cover space. We are looking to expand our range of offers in future and this might count against trying to do some sort of cover in which to keep print-outs. However, it is worth mentioning and, even if it's not possible, there is nothing to stop you printing out our up-dates here and taking them along too. Hopefully, the up-dates will never amount to more than a page or two, so it shouldn't be a problem of quantity!
