We have been to CC a couple of times but as my dd was young we didn't rent inner tubes. This time our group of 5 has rented 5 of them.

Do people mark them with a ribbon or something so that they don't get mixed up with other people's or 'borrowed'?

We did not and did not see anyone who did. They do have handles so there is a place to tie a ribbon. You do need to keep an eye on them because they will "roll" away. We had to stop a couple of kids from taking our - just small kids who did not realize they were not for everyone to share so I am not sure a ribbon would keep them from trying to borrow.

Towards the end of the day, a lot of people just leave them on the beach for other people to use, so it would not be surprising for people to think that any unattended tube is "free" for use.

A ribbon might help. Piling them up with a beach bag or towel on them next to your chairs might do it. Might not.

In the past I will say we've used a couple of tubes at the end of the day that had clearly been left by people who had returned to the ship. I think we'll bring some ribbon to help us keep an eye on them and so that we don't take someone else's in error.

I do think this will help clear up misunderstandings. As well as make yours easier for you to spot!

Is it necessary to rent them ahead of time, or is it safe to wait and rent once we get there? Not sure if it's something that sells out?? Thanks!

You can definitely wait until you are there. They have tons of tubes and floats.

I prefer the floats as the inner tubes are so large and cumbersome. We usually just get them once we get on the island. They collect the "stray tubes" at the end of the day from the reef and tow them back in using jet skis...really fun to watch.

What is the difference between a float and an inner tube. Do you happen to have pictures of the float? I am familiar with the inner tube.

PS - We'll be boarding the Fantasy :) @Sytrace just as you're getting off. :(

This is from a few years ago but this is what they look like...colors may be different now.

@scrappinginontario...I am sorry, I don't have photos of the floats. Best way to describe them is that they are flat and heavy but are made of foam. They are so comfortable and easy to maneuver. You can get those OR the inner tubes at the rental spot on the island.

What a bummer that we will miss each other, but how awesome that our cruises are getting so close! :)

To get an idea of size of the float, here is a pic of DS when he was 10...

We had one of our three tubes "roll away" on our last cruise. We went back to the rental and told them and they just gave us another one. They said it happens all the time.

We got our tube when we got to the island and at lunch I turn it back in and show my receipt after lunch to get a new one. That way I don't have to worry about it being taken or lugging it with us to eat. Its worked both times I've tried it.

Genius! Both of you! Why didn't I think of that?

We've rented a float and then when done returned/exchanged it for an inner tube at no extra cost by showing our receipt.

Enjoy your vacation!

Actually not so silly a question after all. After readings these posts, it never occurred to me to mark them so people wouldn't think they were left behind and could use them.
