I'm dividing my white powder laundry detergent into one load baggies and putting them in my luggage. Should I put the baggies in my carry-on or in the checked luggage? Will security give me any funny looks one way or the other? Trying to cover all of my bases. ;) :teeth:

Put all of your one load baggies into one big ziploc and then put it in your checked luggage. No use lugging laundry detergent around in your carry on.

I'd go for the checked luggage. Even then, if they x-ray the baggage and see white powder in baggies, don't be surprised if you get a note from TSA that they were searched.

If you store it in your carry-on, you might let TSA before the bag goes through the scanner that it's detergent. They may still do a thorough search, but at least it won't look like you're hiding anything.

I always put my dryer sheets in a little baggie too and include that in the larger one which I hope makes it more obvious exactly what that white powder is!

Thanks for the info and good suggestions. I especially like the dryer sheets in with the detergent idea - that makes sense. ;) Also good to know that they will leave me a note if they do search my bags. :flower:

I always put the detergent baggies and the laundry sheets together in 1 large ziplock. I also bring Color Catcher sheets by shout and put those in there too. They work great if you need to do a mixed wash to save time. The detergent will make your clothes/suitcase smell fresh, too, even in the double bags! :)

I have been doing this with the laundry detergent in zip lock backs since 1999 and have never had a problem at the airports. I just put them in the outside zipper of my suitcase. It has save tons of money while on vacation. I used to buy the solid laundry tablets, but they stopped selling them by me.

Not a silly question. I've always been afraid TSA would think I was smuggling drugs so I had my DD buy several small boxes of Tide at the laundry near her college. They were only 50 cents a box.

We put detergent tablets in ziplock bags in our checked luggage. The bag that has the tablets is aways searched by the TSA.

We love to take the Purex tablets with us in a ziploc. I have less fear that they will break open, spreading white powder all over the place.... the problem is, I can't find the tabs anywhere anymore..... we love to take them on trips and camping...... convenient.

Put it in your checked luggage. I don't understand why people worry if their luggage is inspected. I would rather do it that way than try to explain to a TSA rep. what it is.

Every time I've gotten the powder ready for vacation I've always worried that security would be called for the drugs they found in my suitcase,LOL. And there has never been a problem - but I still cringe thinking someday I'm gonna cause a big scene!!

That's what I'm talking about! ;) :teeth: I guess I'll just have to wait and see which bag has room for the laundry things to decide if it will be in a checked bag or a carry on. ;)
Thanks again for the replies.

Or you could write on the outside of the baggie "Laundry Detergent" with a Sharpie pen. That plus the strong smell of detergent should be more than enough to prove that you're not smuggling anything illegal!

There is no possible way that a TSA or DEA agent would confuse your Tide with drugs. They don't look the same, don't smell the same, and don't have the same consistency. Don't worry about it.
