Hi all! We are heading back to Disney in a month. Last time we had our van, but this time we are flying. My boys loved pin trading and are excited to do it again this trip. Has anyone worn their lanyard with pins onto the plane or had them in their carry-on luggage and not had a problem getting on the plane? I don't really want to put them in the checked bags, but will if I have to.

Thanks much!

YES.. done that last trip in Nov 2012.. no problem.

Kind of...I've carried pin onto the plane as part of carry-on several times without a problem. Sometimes the bags end up being searched by the TSA agent, but that's about it. Personally, I would not wear the lanyard with the pins, but that's just because your kids will have to take them off to go through security and there is the risk that one or more will fall off. I would just put the lanyards and pins in a ziploc baggie and put it in my carry-ons. After you get through security, you can either put them on or wait until you get to Disney.

You will not have a problem going through security with the pins in your carryon. You most likely will have to wait while they look at what is in the carry on. Just do not put them in your checked in luggage. I did this one year when I did not feel well and lo and behold, they were stolen out of the bag. Teh best advise to get through security very easily is put them in a bag by themselves so that that is all they have to look at

I'd recommend not wearing them because of the haste of taking them off but you can take them through. Your bag might be searched. There was a lady at security one time with, literally, a large purse full of American coins. Hundreds of them. They ran her bag multiple times and did a hand search. So if you have a LOT of pins in one spot they might do that. But I've taken a sandwich bag full before and never been stopped or told I had to get rid of them.

We've always put them in our carryon and never had any problems. We've never even had the TSA search our bag.

I think it might depend on the security agents and the airports. I've almost always had my bag checked when departing for MCO, but not as often when flying out of MCO. One of the TSA agents said that if there is a lot of stuff in the bag with the pins, they're more likely to search because they can't clearly see what is in the bag. Also, one agent said that if the pins look like a large solid hunk of metal, they've also likely to take a second look. It doesn't take long and it's not a big deal, but I always go with the expectation that they'll search the bag.
