Myself and DFi are doing the DDP on our November 10-17 trip. I am thinking about doing a Signature, or Dinner Show. Is it worth using 2 TS credits? If so, where should we go.

Hello CBWolf !

Us "Diser's" need a bit more information so we can Help you !

So - it is 2 adults... you and DF. No kids.

Signature/Show: Would you enjoy characters/fun? Do you LOVE fine dining? Romantic meal? Dancing & singing? Audience participation? Food Preferences and restrictions?

Hugs,
Mary

Yep, just the 2 0f us. We do enjoy fine dining, as well as entertainment. A romantic atmosphere would be nice too. Thanks.

I've never been to a dinner show, but I hear it's geared more towards children and the food is so-so (as it almost is with character dining and shows). You might still be entertained by the kid's huge smiles on their faces, but if you really want to make the most out of your money I'd say go for a signature restaurant. Afterall, you can see kids having fun in almost all the parks! ;)

If you are on the Plus Dining Plan (1 table, 1 counter, 1 snack) then the only meal that could be justified to use 2 TS credits is Hoop-Dee-Doo. Let me explain.

If you break down the dinner shows into 1 TS for the food and 1 TS for the show, Hoop-Dee-Doo has good food and an entertaining show, so I wouldn't feel like either of the credits went to waist. SoA however would not be worth the 2 credits in my opinion because even though the food is alright and worth the 1 TS credit, the show is just boring and awful for the most part and is not worth the TS credit, IMHO.

I also would not use 2 TS credits on a signature meal. When my girlfriend and I go out and eat somewhere nice we like to enjoy the restaurant to its fullest. We enjoy a drink or 2, apps., entree, and dessert. If you are on the regular dining plan appitizers are not included. The way I look at it I would not feel like I am getting any value out of the DDP if I still had to pay for part of my meal (before drinks) OOP. If you are using the Deluxe dining plan, I can justify using 2 TS credits on a signature meal.

I hope all that made sence.
Enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

I agree with the previous poster that a signature restaurant would be the most romantic (thus, to me, the most entertaining, as well ;)). You can scour the Dining Review thread for more info on the following restaurants to see how they stack up, and you can also find links on this board to look at the menus of these restaurants, too. Find a few menus that looks good to you, read what people have to say about those restaurants, then choose the one that seems the best fit for your wants. Here are just a few signature restaurants to consider:
Narcoosee's
Citrico's
Artist Point
Yachtsman's
Brown Derby
Jiko
Contemporary Grill
. . .and there are many others. These are the ones which came quickly to mind. If you want a real treat, try Victoria and Albert's, though be aware it is NOT on the dining plan. Have fun!

Signatures -- On the deluxe dining plan, we have 3 table service meals x the number of nights. That's a lot of meals.... So, we enjoy several signature restaurants to use the credits and enjoy some finer dining. The average cost if paying out of pocket (for us) is double for a signature compared to a 1 credit restaurant... but it's still only 1 meal, not 2. I think there are many very nice 1 credit restaurants.

Next trip, out of 9 nights, we have 5 signature dinners - Citricos, Narcoosees, California Grill, Brown Derby, Flying Fish. With all the other character meals and themed meals during our trip... the signature restaurants are for mommy and daddy.

We could skip the signatures but our plan is to get out the door quickly most mornings and head to the park, not sit down for breakfast.

Shows -- I thought Hoop Dee Doo was fun and well worth 2 credits. We were in category 2 seating which was just fine. By the way, if you get Category 1 and are up close... you might get some spit from the actors (ever sit up close for a stage production?) Actors spit a lot when projecting their voices. Don't want that on your food! Mickeys Backyard BBQ was OK but more for kids. I actually liked Spirit of Aloha (the food and show) but I'd pay out of pocket to get category 1 seating. The category 2 and 3 seats give a poor view. The food was delicious and the beers kept a coming... Lots of "eye candy" during the show! if you know what I mean. And the fire juggler at the end made it all worthwhile... if you go, even if bored, don't leave until you see the fire juggler... they do save the best for last.

We really enjoy Flying Fish Cafe and Narcoossee's for the signature dining. I am not really into the dinner shows anymore. I have been to the luau, and while the show is nice, the food was not very good. Hoop Dee Doo was fun and food was ok..but once was good enough for me. I would rather spend the 2 credits on a signature restaurant.

Because every meal experience, every time we have gone has been perfect, I can reccomend Citricos 100%:thumbsup2

On trick that I enjoy doing, especially at Jiko, is to order a few apps as a meal. Flatbread and Taste of Africa specifically. Yum! With that being said, I would pay out of pocket. The food is wonderful, but I don't know if I would use 2 credits on the DDP for it. If you were using DxDP, that would be a completely different story.
