I’m in the wrong job – it’s not my niche, it’s not what I like, I don’t even enjoy it, but it pays well, and everyone likes me…. Everyone apparently except my boss. He’s extremely hands off, doesn’t offer feedback one way or the other, and I just don’t have any sort of relationship with him at all….. he’s just completely non-participatory, which is a problem when you’re his admin…..

I just can’t figure out how to fit into all this, how to make him happy, and what I can do to change it. I hate travel plans, passport renewals, and mailing stuff. I want figures, numbers, reports, and formulas. I want to create spreadsheets and programs that do something productive. I don’t want to coordinate flights and car rentals.

I sure could use a DIShug right now.

You know what I'd do? Go online and search for another job, as well as take a highlighter and look at the job classifieds in your newspaper.

Oh Fishbone I know how you feel. A couple years ago when the company I worked for was bought out, the new company didn't hire me right away. I was really bummed, but I found a job a few days later at a Vet's office. I absoulutely HATED it. They sensed how I felt and let me go after two days on the job. Luckily that very evening my former manager called me and offered me my old job back. It was great!!! I've been there ever since now, as a funeral director. What you need to do now is think about a career that makes YOU happy. DO NOT think about the money. The amount of money you make doesn't matter, it's how well you manage it. Money does NOT by happiness. Why be in a career if you're not happy? Who cares about the money, care about what makes YOU happy.

I don't necessarily hate my job. It is back breaking, and the pay really stinks. But the hours are perfect,(so I can take DD to school and pick her up, plus be off when she is off) the location is great (real close to home) and the people I work with are really nice. So refreshing to have someone say thank you.

I know how you feel!! I don't like my job or boss either.... I like what I do...good pay...do the spreadsheets, formulas, billing, payroll...but 75 miles away and hate being gone 12 hrs a day!! dh just retired and wants to see if I can quit soon too.... good luck!
