Sigh. Am I too old for a Disney-inspired bedroom?!

That room is really pretty. I say do what you want, it's your bedroom!

Hopefully by the time a date would "see" your bedroom he'd know you and accept you for who you are ;).

:thumbsup2

I totally agree. How can it be a bad thing if it makes you happy! Do it!

:thumbsup2

You are never too old to have what you want in your bedroom. Especially if it's Disney! :goodvibes You only live once and you should do what makes you happy!

As for the woman who has a hubby that hates the changes she makes...I am so sorry. Makes me feel lucky that my hubby always says "Whatever you want honey". pixiedust:

:thumbsup2 Mine also!!

I like the idea of going with the colors for inspiration on your walls and bed. I would definitely try to find some lamps like the floating lanterns. And I do think you could do a mural of the 'sun' she draws on one of your walls. What's wrong with having a lovely soothing bedroom you actually want?

:thumbsup2 I say go for what pleases you!

I think if you took inspiration from the colors & scenery leaving out the characters and castle, you could have a lovely room that has the ethereal feel without being "disney". The mural with some lush bedding would be lovely.

If they made Little Mermaid sheets in King size... we'd be sleeping on them. And I'm 57.;) You're NEVER too old for anything Disney. That's what I :lovestruc about it.

:thumbsup2 I feel the same way about Eeyore sheets in queen. Doesn't bother my dh one bit - might get teased a little, but in a 'fun' way. After all, we're the only ones that see them and the only ones that matter. I don't usually go around telling everyone what kind of sheets are on my bed. When it's nicely made up it looks great no matter! :)

I don't go for the painted mural type things anyway, but if I did wouldn't matter!

....I think you can tastefully decorate your room with a "Tangled" theme as long as you don't go too overboard with...sometimes less is more...KWIM? BTW ~ love, love, LOVE those pix you posted! :thumbsup2

Who really sees your bedroom? We're doing our master bath to match a Haunted Mansion print I have. Who cares? Dh and I are the only ones who will see it.

Then again if you're single, maybe you do have a parade of near strangers in your room all the time. ;)

Paint is cheap. You're a big girl. Decorate as you see fit. If and when you get tired of the decor, buy more paint and change it.

Life's too short to "act like a grownup" because you think you should. There are so many areas of your life where you have to be adult-- you have to go to work each day, you have to pay your bills, you have to buy insurance, you really should have a will... ths list goes on and on and on.

If a little bit of paint will make you happy, I say you go for it.

I would totally do it but leave off the characters themselves. Take them out and you have the feel and theme of a relaxing room in gorgeous colors.

And my very grown up sister has a Haunted Mansion bathroom and a sink to match.

So there.

So, I have been OBSESSED with the Tangled-inspired hotel room at Tokyo Disney ever since I saw the photos floating around on Tumblr last week. OBSESSED. If you haven't seen it, take a gander:

It's so beautiful! Now, I generally not a princess-y type of girl and I don't exactly want my bedroom to look like a Disney hotel room, but I have been thinking of how I can add some elements from the Tangled room into my own decor. Any ideas?!

Also, am I just too old for this? I am 29 years old. My bedroom is not at all child-like (you know, because I'm an adult), but it does reflect a younger style since I last decorated it when I was about 25. Right now it is bright yellow and my furniture is minimalist birch (from ikea, of course). My accents are green (light green but in leafy patterns), and I have some old photos, posters, and artwork on the walls. So, mostly like a post-college 20-something woman, which I was when I last decorated lol.

I'm itching for something more grown up but Tangled-inspired seems like a step in the wrong direction... :rolleyes2 I was thinking I could incorporate some of the sun iconography? And I LOVE the mural, but have no idea how I could recreate that.

Anyway, any ideas/advice is mucho appreciated! Do any of you grown adults have Disney decor in your bedrooms?

It's your bedroom do what you want.

At 29 I do believe my bedsheets and comforter where Mickey Mouse. (granted they were on sale and I needed a new size so that why I bought them). But they went great with the colors in my room so there you go.

I would not have a Disney bedroom now, but I do have some plush animals in my room (including a Mickey&Minnie) and I'm in my 40s. If any 'visitors' were freaked out they have never told me.

I would go with the idea of the theme Tangled and have subtle accents, pale yellow walls or wall paper bedding perhaps like this:

With side table lamps here:

You could get paint in a faint gold and do the circle on it.
Target also has table lamps very similar to the round dresser lamp in lavender on in the picture. I also think the small fry pan on the dresser would be cute and maybe a sun type mirror from pier one imports

Depending on how crafty you are it would be fun to try to copy the back of the bed by doing "bedhangings" using this product:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sigman-8...rop-Cloth-CD080912/203006520#customer_reviews
and a curtain rod cut to the size of your bed and either painted or dyed from midnight blue on bottom to light pink on top and the soft gold swirls throughout. I would use cording draped across the top and down the sides with tassels to give the idea of the bed posts. You could use the same stuff and paint or dye one solid color to use on the bed with trim around the edges. They sell fabric glue or even iron on stuff no need even to use a sewing machine.

As far as a picture goes I would try to find one that is romantic and has the idea but not the actual cartoon. I remember seeing on art.com the maiden greeting the returning warrior type thing.

All in all it would be so fun to try to do the colors go together beautifully and I think would work great in a bedroom as long as you kept things soft and light. Pintrest is a wealth of information if you decide to do it please show pictures.

WOW! Y'all are awesome, haha. I was not at all expecting this many thoughtful responses to my admittedly ridiculous query. I'm going to go through and respond now. :)

A few people have asked about the impact something like this would have on potential suitors.

Yes, I'm currently single. No, I don't plan to be single forever. And I am so not at all close to having a parade of men marching through my bedroom, haha! :) Sadly the only boyfriend I have right now is Netflix.

Each of the elements are pretty grown up, as opposed to something like Minnie Mouse or Tinkerbell. I'd say go for it and call it Parisian style.

Do you have a guest room you could decorate?

Sadly no. We do have a small room that could be a guest room one day, but for now it's a storage room and we have no plans to use it for anything else at this point.

The beautiful colors inspire me. If I could go crazy and do what I wanted, I would paint my bedroom one of the purple colors at the top of the mural, get a big fluffy comforter the deep blue color of the bottom of the mural, and add some throw pillows in patterns like the pink and gold of the bedspreads in the pictures. You could look for a bedside lamp in the style of the lanterns and try to find some Rapunzel artwork for your wall. You could incorporate the sun icon (which I love because my middle name is Sunshine) in the pillows and the artwork. It could be sumptuous and romantic- not childish.

The problem with me is that I have a DH who doesn't have the same taste as me. When I decide something, he doesn't like it. I propose something else and he asks what happened to the last thing. I tell him he didn't like it and he says he did but I've already moved on. It's a vicious cycle and it's the reason there are lime, red, and cream spots on my kitchen cabinets right now- we just can't agree! Plus, he never comes up with an idea- why am I doing all the brainstorming work?!?

Haha. Well I probably have a few years ahead of me before I live with a partner so I'm thankfully free to do what I want. Thanks for the good ideas!

If you go ahead with it I hope you'll come back and show us photos! :)

I definitely will! After reading this thread I would love to see other peoples' bedrooms as well. Someone should start a thread for it.

A lot of this is just a pipe dream because I don't know how much longer I'm going to live here (actively trying to relocate with my company BUT it is a slow-going process so it might be more than a year), but I am curious of how much I can redecorate without breaking the bank too much or doing something too permanent.

I like the idea of going with the colors for inspiration on your walls and bed. I would definitely try to find some lamps like the floating lanterns. You're so right. Having a bedroom you actually love is so important. Most people spend a lot of time in their bedrooms! It might as well be a place of beauty, calm, and serenity, so they can rest their bodies and rest their souls. :)

I think you could do it without making it to kidish.

Use the purple/gold color scheme and have ONE nice piece of art that is Tangled inspired.

Here are some I found on Etsy. And they are not very expensive.

Here is a Thomas Kinkade print (though I am not a big fan)

I would love to have a painting like Rapunzel did of the lanterns. I think the lantern scene is one of the most beautiful in Disney films.

I agree! Tangled is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies and THAT SCEEEEEENE is too much, it's just gorgeous. Thank you for the etsy links! Etsy really is a huge repository of beautiful and original art of all kinds of fandoms!

Oh never too old, I am ummm a wee bit older than you and we have a Snow White/Evil Queen bedroom. Instead of a headboard we have a wall sized decal that looks hand painted of The Black Forest, I have an elec fireplace that looks very 7 Dwarf Cottage. A black scroll mirror and wall decal that says the Mirror Mirror phrase. Comforter looks like the wallpaper in Regina's office on Once Upon A Time......a damask pattern and then Snow White and Evil Queen throw pillows. It's all very tasteful, adult but yet really Disney.
We also have a Disney Mickey bathroom, my sons room is Pirates with a little haunted mansion ( he has a suit of armor that looks like the one in the ride)
Our long porch is Tiki Room inspired and the living room is Animal Kingdom......
All done subtle but makes me very happy!!
Please post pics when your room is done, I am sure it will be AMAZING

omg. Your house sounds like it may actually be the Magic Kingdom. I would love to see photos if you're willing to share!

I guess you knew what kind of answers you'd get here as opposed to asking your family and friends!:scared::scratchin:crazy2:

Ahaha. You caught me.

Do you have any concerns about a possible impact on your (potential) relationships? I wonder how that would read to a potential mate?

In all fairness, the idea has zero appeal to me personally, but my Disney decor and apparel is quite limited, virtually nonexistent. DH would never approve a bedroom decor idea like that, even though design is usually my domain.

I answered this upthread, but yes, I agree its a fine line from being inspired to being a little crazy. I watch a lot of lifestyle bloggers on YouTube and one of my favorite YouTubers, a woman around my age with a husband and young daughter, often films from her bedroom, and everything is PINK! Light pink bedsheets on a white bed frame (lit up with twinkle lights, of course), hot pink throw pillows, hot pink and white damask wallpaper, and white furniture. Too much! I often wonder how her husband deals with all of that frilly pink and white!

Wow, that is gorgeous!

I would definitely go subtle. Paint in lovely purple-blues, use the sun motif in pale gold instead of bright yellow, and don't limit it to just one Tangled-inspired art piece! I think three is a good number, especially if they go together and look like art instead of "screen grabs from a cartoon".

I have married friends who put strings of dollar store Japanese lanterns up in their bedroom-- I'd do the same, only make them look like the sky lanterns. Potential mates may appreciate the mood lighting. ;)

I think the lighting is going to be a big part of this plan. My house is outfitted with Philips Hue lamps, so with paper lantern-style lighting, I can definitely set a mood! Haha

I am 37. My bedroom is based on this Cinderella puzzle:

http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Puzzle-Cinderellas-Grand-Arrival/dp/B000W6GMWW

I did the puzzle, had it framed and it hangs on one wall. I do blue bedding on the bed. Above the headboard is a 4 ft x 4 ft quilt wall hanging in the same blue, green and pink of the puzzle, and it looks like a stained glass window design. The curtains are ombre blue and green. The walls are gray (like a castle).

I'm thinking about a Happily Ever After sign for between the closet and bathroom doors- it's currently bare.

I think something done in those gold, purple, and blue tones could work beautifully. Maybe you can find a comforter and curtains that are reminiscent of that style, and some artwork.

Oh, that sounds very pretty. I'd love to see a photo if you'd like to share! I think someone should start a Disney decorating inspiration thread, lol.

.... what's wrong with a Pascal plushie???!?!!?? ( :rotfl2: )
