Sick right before my trip

My trip is 4 days away and a couple of days ago I caught a terrible cold. All my excitement is gone because of my cold and yesterday I felt so bad I couldn't even get excited about Disney.

Have you ever had a bad cold at Disney?
I really hope this one goes away before my trip.

During our Aug 2003 trip I came down with a flu like thing while I was there. Missed a whole day and then a couple of evenings from being so tired from it. But I recovered before the end so my last couple of days were good.

I'm sorry to hear that you are sick - I totally can understand why you aren't excited anymore. May I suggest that you contact your doctor - explain that you are going to Disney in 4 days. He may want to see you to make sure that you aren't developing a sinus infection. He can also recommend some over the counter meds to help you feel better.

Good luck and I hope that you are better soon!

Sorry you are feeling icky. Maybe it will have run its course in 4 more days. I would check with the doctor though, especially if you are flying. Can give you some recommendations what might help. Try to rest up and before you know it your mind will be on all the wonderful sights in the Magic Kingdom. I am sending you some pixie dust right now :wave2:

A sinus infection, thats what I worried about.

I got REALLY dizzy last night to the point that I just had to lay down. And I never get dizzy, I could spin around in my chair for 10 minutes and not get dizzy.

I hope it gets better, because being like this for my first trip would kill me. :sad2:

that you should go to the doctor and make sure it's not a bacteria infection. If it is, antibiotics will help rather quickly. Sometimes I think I have a cold and it's a sinus infection.

I did get sick at Disney once - guess what with? A sinus infection.

I "usually" always get sick right before I go or leading into the 1st few days of my vacation. It's the stress I think.

Definitely see a doctor. You don't want to be sick during vacation!

Have a great trip!!!

Go to the Dr. and get a shot of antibiotics. Most will give you a shot if you ask for it. that should clear up whatever you had.

Last year, I was putting my kids trampoline back together after Hurricane Rita and stepped in a hole and dislocated my ankle 2 days before our trip. I lived on pain medicine the entire time I was there. Luckily it was during Food and Wine festival and we spent alot of time in Epcot. I'm not a wine drinker but the guys at the guiness booth knew me by name at the end of the week.

I think getting it 4 days ahead of time will make sure it probably will be gone during the first days there, if I had to choose it would be before so the worst was over before I left.

It's the season for colds/flus, when we boarded the plane in Orlando 9/16 (our departure date) my nose started running and I got all stuffed up, we got home and it all broke loose, I've been sick since Saturday night with chills, fever, the nose running...the all included in a cold/flu.

I'm just happy it happened after our trip, though I felt kind of dizzy at times on our last days (pre-cold/flu?) that was all at WDW.

DD had the stomach bug before I first trip, coming out both ends, imagine our panic (cancel/not cancel?) the day before we left we took her to her pediatrician, she gave her medicine against nausea and she stopped throwing up, all that night before going to the airport we stayed awake waiting for her to run to the bathroom but nothing happened, she was over it!

We left for our trip, she was a little "off" during the flight but once we got to Orlando and WDW it was like she had never been sick at all! Though I thought the stress of not knowing what to do/would she get better gave me an ulcer  Sorry if long :)

I'll probably be fine though....I just hope it goes away. It feels like the cold has actually gotten worse since I got it. Hopefully it'll go away. Maybe I need to take a couple of Placebo's. ;)

We are leaving in 4 days and my DD and DH both started coming down with pretty nasty colds... I immediately went out and bought Zicam because i was having some early symptoms and my symptoms seem to be going away and my husband started feeling better within 24 hours. Of course my DD is too young to take Zicam so we are just getting her plenty rest and motrin. I have used Zicam in the past and swear it works. Just make sure you get the nasal swabs that lessen the length and strength of the cold and not the throat spray that just soothes. I recently read that the average cold lasts 7-14 days :sad1:

I agree with the Zicam nasal swabs. They really work -- not only the duration but the severity of symptoms. I use them in tandem with medication, even if I do have some sort of infection.

For little ones, they sell Zinc pops or suckers. They provide the same effect of the Zicam nasal swabs (which my pediatrician told me was fine to use on my 2 year old) . My kids love the suckers and they help a lot too.

This is my biggest fear before my trip. I swear I am Zicaming everyone before we get on the plan, just in case.

Feel better & enjoy your trip!

I seem to always get sick towards the end of my Disney World trips. In 94 I got sick two days before we were to come home. When we ate at 'Ohana I couldn't taste a thing.

In 2005, we went on a Disney Cruise and I was sick the last day of that. Both times it was just a really bad cold. But still icky.

Hope you get better before your trip.

We leave on the 23rd, and my wife just came down with a nice cold. I bought some of that Airborne stuff yesterday, and she started taking it, along with my daughter and I. Hopefully she got it early enough that it is about gone before we leave, and hopefully my daughter and I can avoid it. Hoping the Airborne works, and may look for the Zicam as well. Even if these only work because of the placebo effect, worth the money if we stay healthy.

I'm sorry you are sick! What a bummer just before your trip.

I totally believe in over the counter meds to help the symtoms. Definately don't fly without sudafed, even if you are feeling better chances you'll still have fluid in your sinuses. It could be a very painful flight without it!

I am not a Dr, and I hardly know the best way to the quickest recovery, but I would drink lots and lots of water and try to flush it out of my system!

You still have 4 days, that is good!

Hope you feel better fast!
Have a magical vacation! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Yes, Do all the above, AND Sleep Sleep Sleep now. Also take lots of vitamin C. I'm always amazed on how much faster I get better when I get lots of sleep. Hope to see you there -
I will be there Sept 27-Oct 5th CBR :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I got sick (coughing and sneezing) about a day or two before our last trip to Disney. I lived on Robatussin and Zrytec for days. Somehow I made it through and still had a great time. I just never missed a dose of my medicine. I just kept trucking along :) :)
Here's hoping this trip we all stay healthy!

I'm in the same boat. Leaving this Saturday, and I woke up this morning with a cold :( I usually get over them pretty quickly, but now I'm worried that I'll give it to DH and he'll be getting sick just in time for our trip to start!

I will say that if you think it's progressing to a sinus infection, don't let it go and make sure you get to a doctor as soon as possible. I made that mistake a few years ago. I had a nasty earache and didn't call the doctor thinking it would clear up on it's own. The day before we were supposed to leave it reached a point where it was unbearable so I called the doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. It took a few days to feel better, so I wasted those first few days of our trip in terrible pain. If I hadn't been so stubborn and just went to the doctor sooner I would have already been recovered by the time our trip came along.

Hope you're feeling better soon, and have a great first trip! :)

I got sick on my second day of my last trip to WDW. I was very tired but just made the best of it. One day I couldn't talk and spent the day doing charades with the family (we all laughed about it later). My biggest issue was flying home. Mind you, I have motion sickness anyways. I was very dizzy and feeling very sick on the flight. So, please see the doctor or take something to make you feel better. Rest, rest, rest. Get better and have a great trip.

See your doctor ASAP! I flew to Florida a couple of years ago with a sinus infection, and it was awful. Going up wasn't too bad (decreasing pressure) but on the descent it felt like my head was being squeezed in a vise.
