As an ex-vegan, I'd like to take the "challenge". Is there anything you get when you finish the steak or is it just for bragging rights?

If I tried to eat a 48 oz. steak in one sitting (or 4!), I'd be worried about my stomach bursting. I seriously don't think it would fit...

Well, it's a porterhouse, so at least 1/2 lb of it is bone. It's not terribly hard to do! ;)

You are just inducted into the club.

It isn't very difficult to do. Anyone with ahalf an appetite could do it. Just don't load up on the other stuff floating around.

Was just there last Thursday night. When our waiter was showing us the 48 oz. cut he said if you finish it all in one sitting by yourself you are inducted into the 48 oz club and your name appears on the 48 oz club list on their website somewhere.

If anyone with "half an appetite" could eat 40 oz. of steak in one sitting (taking off 8oz. for the bone), then I must have about an eighth of an appetite... and that's skipping the extras, lol.

I bow to those of you who can...

I tried to tackle the 32 oz prime rib about 15 years ago. I'm no lightweight when it comes to large portions, but I finished maybe a little more than half before crying "uncle." It sure was tasty though. Now that we're DVC we could get a box for the leftovers and have it again the next day. :earsboy:

Half an appetite might be a little exaggerated. I've done it a few times so far and even had a little room left for some of the wife's prime rib.

You get your name on a plaque in the restaurant.

I agree that you don't want to fill up on bread, appetizer, sides, or anything else (all but the bread is a la carte). I sometimes think I'd like to try for it, but even the 20+ ounce steaks leave me stuffed. I will say, every bite is something to savor. My wife and I usually share a baked potato because they are huge and I do like their soup. We usually stay in either the Swan or Dolphin so we can take what we don't eat and put it in the fridge in the room. It will easily survive the hour drive home. Who knows though... I may get my name on the plaque someday.

Do you still pay for it if you finish it? Or just the name on a plaque? Just curious lol

Nah, ya gotta pony up the 97 bucks whether you finish it or not.

I could probably handle it but I usually get the cowboy steak or the sirloin cause I love the damn appetizers, sides and desserts too darn much. Also because I'm usually having an adult beverage or 3 too!
