Hi,
Going on my first DC next year and wanted to know if the stage shows are the same as on broadway / west end? I literally just saw Frozen in London yesterday and I’m sure Frozen in one of the shows on my DC.

I was always under the impression that the shows on the ships were created specifically for and by Disney Cruise Line. I would think that copyright laws would prevent any portion of the Broadway/West End shows to be performed on cruise ships. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Oh ok thanks for into but might give it a miss if it’s just condensed and all the rest is the same just cut.

While the shows are the "same" shows (storyline), they are a different production, with similar characters, possibly sets & costumes.

The same, but different.

Well, @mikeishere, looks like you might be the best one to answer your own question after your DCL cruise. Please keep us informed.
Haha very true but I rather know before the cruise so I know if I’m wasting my time going to watch it in the cruise theatre and if I could be doing other things or not on the ship while Frozen and Aladdin are playing on the ship as I have seen both frozen and Aladdin broadway / west end versions hehe.

You are fortunate to see both shows on a major theatre stage. I've only seen the DCL productions on the ship and I was amazed at the productions, staging, music, and special effects during the program. Just do it. We need a person with experience to review the shows.

The plots are similar, as you can imagine. The staging and performance is different and faster.

I would not say that having seen a Broadway Frozen you should just skip the onboard. Different performers, different venue, different impact.

(This is also why people see even the same stage musical more than once! You don't wanna know how many times one of my friends has seen Le Miz. It is her jam.)

Yes very true I’m very lucky. Well you wont get a review till after March next year as I don’t go till next year hehe. It was because I saw Frozen in London yesterday it reminded me about DCL

Can’t speak for Frozen as haven’t seen the show in London but as for Aladdin it is not the same, while of course there are similarities as you’d expect, they’re based on the same film after all, they are different shows and certainly worth watching.
i saw the DCL version and then London theatre and loved both and thought they were done differently enough to not feel I was watching the same show

hahaha....I have been on 47 DCL cruises and I still go the shows each night on every cruise....I think only one cruise did I miss a show. I love them and feel they are part of my cruise experience enjoyment!

Frozen on DCL is different to Broadway (Frozen on broadways feels like it’s aimed at an older audience somewhat) but there are some similarities (most notably how Olaf is performed - thought it was an interesting insight into the development of the Broadway adaptation in that respect). I’ve seen both and enjoyed both, the DCL version is nothing new due to the condenses time but a good production and really fun (pre-covid there were beach balls in the audience during Olaf’s song for example).

The shows on DCL are more similar to the shows in the parks if you’ve ever seen those, both in terms of time and costumes. Aladdin on DCL has the most differences to the Broadway version IMO, Genie is more cartoonish on DCL.

Hope that helps (it’s been a while since I’ve seen all with the pandemic), there’s also videos on YouTube if you want to watch a tiny bit to get a feel for them.

We have season tickets to the Broadway across America show at our local theater and have seen Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and will see Frozen next month. DCL line ones are definitely not to be missed if you like going to the theater. They are condensed but have a wonderful production quality and the actual DCL theaters are just so beautiful and classic seeing anything in there is special.
