Quick question, have any of you shown up to an ADR with a different number of people than you had originally reserved? I'm not talking about sticking extra people in with my ADR, but more along the lines that someone in my party might not be able to make it. (I don't want to be morbid, but for instance, what happens if someone comes down with the flu?) Just curious. Thanks.

Our friends were going to join us for about half of our meals on a two week trip - so about 8 to 10 meals. We were a party of five. The lady's mother passed and she had to fly home on the first day of our trip. We had no problem being a party of three instead of five at any of our ADRs. We didn't have any CC guar. meals.

If you have extra space, and it is a very crowded day, give someone a magic moment by inviting them to join you at your table. Separate check, of course. At best you will have new friends, at worst an uncomfortable meal.

What if you show up with one extra?
If you are going from an odd number up to an even number there should be no problem, as most tables are designed for an even number of people. So a party of three will normally be seated at a four-top anyway. However, if going from even up to odd you will have a problem because then your party of four will need a six-top table.
