We are frequent visiters to WDW, but we will be taking a cruise next summer leaving from Venice. We love Disney so much that we have decided to take the oppertunity to fly to DLP a few days before our cruise and visit, then fly to Venice.
I don't know what I am more excited about, the 12 night cruise or the chance to get two days at DLP.:yay:
This is the first of many questions, I am sure. I really hope someone can help me.
While looking at the disney web site, I noticed they had a Lion King show and a "movie" cinemagique (sp?). What language are they performed in? I would assume French as we are in France. If they are, are there any translating devices to get that you can hear the show in English?
Thank you so much for your time!!!

The Lion King show is performed in both English and French (seperate shows). Just make sure you attend one of the English shows! The times for the English shows are clearly stated outside.

Cinemagique is in both English and French at the same time. Most of it is silent film but there are two main characters. A man and a woman. The man always speaks in English, the woman in French. It works well and is very easy to follow. It really is a fantastic show!

Most of the other shows follow a similar format to Cinemagique. They'll have a little bit of French and a little bit of English. Some attractions such as Honey I shrunk the Audience and The Art of Animation have headphones with multiple different languages available.

I know many people are quite nervous about the language barrier but it really doesn't exist in the parks. I've not come across a CM that can't speak English fluently. All the signs are in English and French. Just make sure you perfect your 'merci' as it's always appreciated!!!

Cinemagique is in English and French. Since I am fairly fluent in both I really don't pay much attention or notice when the languages shift. I did watch the film this past summer with an American poster (kathleena) and she seemed to enjoy it as much as I, so I don't think that French is required to enjoy the film.

The Lion King has shows in various languages. You can obtain tickets for the English show in advance, on the day of the show.

Many of the attractions are in Engish and French, some in French only. Again, I am most likely not the best person to comment as I have always been able to understand what is being said in either language.

But there are many from the UK who post here, and a few Americans, and I know that many of them have only very basic or even no French at all.

I've not come across a CM that can't speak English fluently.

Interestingly enough, I have come across a cast member who did not speak French at all well. She was at the hostess stand at one of the restaurants, and I approached her in French. She apologized in very broken French; I recognized her Dutch accent and asked her in English if it were better to speak in English (Most Dutch speak excellent English)

She told me that it was her first day at work and that her French was extremely poor and that she was very nervous that she would not succeed...

In fact, I am often frustrated by cast members who assume that one is British and insist on speaking very poor English rather than French, and tell me that it is a 'courtesy'. I respond in French that it would be a 'courtesy' if they spoke to me in French or German, please....

OP, based on what I see here you won't have issues with not knowing French, but you should definitely learn how to greet people appropriately, as well as thank them, as noted above. This will make any interaction more pleasurable for you.

There's no reason to worry about language problems at DLRP. One thing about the lion king show: since a few weeks/months they don't have the ticket system any more, so you have to queue again. Next to that, the songs are always in English. Only the dialogues are in French if you watch the French show.

Thank you, so much for all the information. I feel much better knowing we will be able to fully enjoy the shows. My DD15 is taking French in school and will be able to help a bit, and we are working on a few key phrases, but if the shows had been only in French it would have been way beyond us.
Thanks again all.
