Shouldn't feel guilty? Fri. & Sat. night stay...

We book by the week generally and look at the number of points for the week. We have switched resorts during stays but not to avoid the Friday and Saturday night point premiums.

If your goal is to stretch your DVC currency as far as possible then you would check-in to an OKW studio during Adventure season on Sunday and check-out on Friday. It would require only 40 points and provide a five night, six day stay in a great resort and a large comfortable room. And the best time to do it would be the first two weeks of December so you can enjoy all of the holiday festivities. Anyone who purchased a small 40 point resale add-on, even with the premium of closing costs, is getting a terrific bargain.

If your daughter wants to swim at CS why do you need to change resorts? Just PH over to CS.

We changed resorts on our last trip just to try out BCV. The BC was fun, but not worth the hassle of packing and unpacking. We lost a half day in the middle of our vacation with all the fuss. We've never moved out to save on weekend points, never have never will. look at from the perspective of points for the week. Compare that to the rack rate for how many days you are staying. It will still look cheap.

When we first joined DVC we would never stay on weekends. We stayed for cash at other hotels we wanted to try, such as AKL.

It was such a hassle moving we decided from now on we will just bite the bullet and stay weekends also on DVC points.

We stay at least 4 times a year on our way to a different resort in Fl. Our check in is on Friday so we stay the 5 days before that at DW. When we leave the other resort its on Friday so then we have to use the weekend points.

I love switching resorts on vacation. Last trip we stayed 3 nights at the Dolphin, 5 at BCV and then 5 at BWV, it was like 3 vacation in 1.

Next trip we're staying 4 nights at Universal, 4 nights at OKW and then 5 nights at VWL.

Both trips we do end up staying a Fri/Sat at a DVC though we just move around a lot because we enjoy it.

We are among the "no move" folks too. We either stay for a full week or 10 days with only one weekend stay.

We love to try different resorts and our goal is to stay in them all. So we hop and look at it as an adventure.

Well ... I used to worry about it ... but only sorta.

Our DVC membership is the newest add-on to our "vacation portfolio." Having learned a few things from my other properties, I've chosen to not consider DVC's point costs as "night by night" but only as "length of stay."

I learned this after spending too many moments fretting over booking (gasp!) weekends only with our first points-based timeshare.

I later found the memories created during the getaways far outweighed the "nightly point costs." (Looking back, we remember the great times and have completely forgotten how many points were needed for any given night.)

Travel with your family as often as you are able. Make memories -- and may you enjoy your membership to its fullest! :)

Good luck with your decision.....as you know we move lots so our advice would be biased....

We have used points for Fri and Sat stays and will again in our 05 trip so I would not sweat it either way

Funny - DS#1 wants to stay at CSR - every time we drive by on way to AK or Mini-Golf he wants to go in!

thanks

I do like variety and don't mind the move too much, although I think DH does a tad. We used to even stay offsite the first night since we travel down in one shot, but even now DH is getting tired of that and wants to go ahead and stay inside the world.

I think what is really bothering me is trying to determine if I want to use those higher point nights versus paying peak rack rate at CSR for spring break and then ~hoping~ an AP rate comes out for that time. (Not to mention I'd have to wait until a few months before the trip to even know.) If it was the great $74 AP rate like recently I wouldn't even stop to think twice, but who knows what and if it will be come next April.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can just go ahead and book those extra DVC nights and then wait and see about AP rates, then knock them off cause I'm having to borrow points from the following use year to cover the rest of a VB trip later that summer. In other words - I can't bank once I've already borrowed? Right?

I think I'm just gonna book all week at OKW. I ran the pool hopping idea by my DD tonight and she seemed quite excited about it even when I explained we would just go swim over at CSR's "Indiana Jones" pool one day but not sleep there. We pool hooped to SSR a few weeks ago and she had a blast.

Who knows? Maybe we'll get to OKW and the new slide will be such a hit she won't want to leave.

We use points for the weekend. But what I was doing was staying the weekend in a studio and then moving up to a one bedroom. It is still a pain to move (the biggest thing is not having a room for DD when she needs a nap).

Since our last big add on, DH said the only way I would get the add on was if I booked weekend nights in a one bedroom. Of course I agreed so I could get my points!!

The problem is that DH likes to take 4 night weekend trips instead of longer ones. So I have to "waste" my points for these short trips instead of week long ones where you can average out the per night amounts. Oh well, as long as I get to go!

As far as your question about banking, if you will be using current points to book the OKW stay then if you cancel you can still bank - as long as you are with in your banking window.

Then yes you can still borrow points for your VB trip later on. (I do this all the time - bank my points and then want another trip so I have to borrow more). You would be borrowing different points, not the ones you just banked.

Did that make sense?
