We arrive on June 16th. Should we even try to ride this when it opens on the 17th? I wonder what this will do to the traffic at the park while we are there.

Thanks for any thoughts.

The media event is on the 17th so you might not be able to get on it until that is over. You might be able the day before assuming the have it available for what is a soft opening.

Our last day is June 17th and I was kind of wondering the same thing, should we even try to ride. It would be great if we could do it on the 16th. Lets hope that they are planning a soft opening.

We will also be there when Toy Story Mania is open hopefully. I hope we will be able to ride this. If not then next year!

June 17th is my third day! I cant wait to ride toy story mania.

When Nemo opened, the media event took a while and guests weren't allowed on the ride until the afternoon. Hopefully there will be less fanfare for TSMM, and it will open sooner.

Even then, the cast members said it was roughly a 6-hour wait when we walked by on opening day. The next day was just as bad.

It is unfortunate how when things first open it takes so long to even see them.
Hope you have more luck with the Toy Story Mania. C:

I think we'll either do the AP preview or just wait a week and go. I expect the lines to be long for a couple years.

The latest information from another Disney site says the media grand opening is June 15th-16th with the official grand opening of the ride being June 17th. I have been keeping a close eye on it because we'll be there starting June 18th. I hope we get a chance to ride it without waiting for hours.

Our last day is the 17th... I think at this point, we are not going to even bother trying and if it happens to be open when we are walking by earlier in the week Yay for us!!

I like the Toy Story Mania commercial spot for the June 17th opening. Definitely makes you want to go check it out.

we will be there June 22-24, Any ideas for a strategy to do this without a 6 hour wait?

I think your right and that will be our plan too. No way do I want to spend my last Disney day waiting 6 hours in a line. Besides it will leave something new for next time. This time Nemo is new for us so hopefully we can do that at some point but again I do not want to wait 2-3 hours in line.

While the Nemo line might have been extremely long, I can guarantee you that TSMM's line will not be as long for several reasons:

a) It's a higher capacity ride
b) It's at DCA which doesn't get as many visitors in general
c) It's not the return of a classic ride

With all this talk about 6 hour lines, I think you're all overthinking it. At most, I would say the line will reach 3-4 hours on opening day. How do you avoid wasting a big chunk of your day in line?

1) Arrive early early early so you don't have to wait as long.
2) Wait until right before park closing to enter the line. You'll still have to wait a while, but since the park is about to close, it doesn't matter anyways.

I doubt it will be longer than a 60-90 minute wait. The Nemo subs are restricted by the slow load and unload times and long ride time, these new rides are designed to be efficient, hopefully even with long lines the wait times won't exceed ridiculous times.

You could just have your fun and at the end of the night, five minutes before closing jump in line for TSM and that way you won't be losing any park time by waiting in line for it.

So if we are in line before they close the line, we get to ride?

Getting there right before closing might be the perfect time to try and ride.

Media is given passes to ride the attraction those days but there is still a scheduled media event to officially open it. Not sure who exactly gets to ride it when it officially opens and not sure when guests will be allowed. But I wouldn't expect to ride it first thing in the morning on the 17th.

I was at DCA on Monday (I have an AP) and asked about soft openings. The CM said that they had been running all day on Sunday, were fixing something that didn't work that day, and should be starting them up again when it's fixed.

So, while it's not guaranteed you'll get in, I think the chances are good that they will be doing soft openings for you when you go the day before!
