Should we sell our truck at a loss just to go to DISNEY??

SELL THE TRUCK!!!!!!! Take the $4200 and be happy! If you don't,you may be still lookin' at it in a year!!

If you don't need the money to pay any bills or anything, I say GO FOR IT!! I would love for my husband to suggest the two of us go on vacation alone to Disney (or anywhere else for that matter!). Have fun!

Another thing I'm looking at is that this was always going to be ""play"" money for us. We have lived the past 5 or so years with the outlook that if we can't pay cash for it we don't need it.

The only 2 bills we have with the exception of insurance and utilities are our mortgage and one CC that I pay off monthly. We have a new Trailblazer with 600 miles thats paid for.

If this was money that I needed to pay something off I would consider waiting to get the full price or if it was money meant for one specific thing but we have always considered it to be money we were going to spend.

We were thinking of getting a 4 wheeler or a dirt bike for our son (but that thought scares me!!!!!) We had thought of redoing a bathroom or doing some yard work????

I don't know.......I do realize that its cost us about 120 this past month to put it in circulars and run it in the paper with no interest being shown. Its almost more trouble than its worth.

If this is the case, go for it! $4200 will go a long way at Disney! It sounds like your area is so depresed, you won't do much better, anyway.

I realize there are times when we "need" to reward ourselves....a fun trip, decadent meal, expensive toy etc. But.....all the talk of hard times and layoffs in your area caused me to wonder. Is there ANY possibility you or your DH could be laid off in the near future and need the money to live on? What do I know....you may be rich!!! Kindly ignore me, it's just the "Mother Hen" phase I'm going through that I always resented in others. ::yes::

With the situation you have described, yes. I would. :)

At $4500, I'd put $2500 into savings, and use $2000 or less for a WDW trip. :)

Nope, not rich, far from it!!!!! We have some money put aside from my father's death in a savings for our son's college and we pay our bills but we are far from rich.

My DH is a supervisor with the local cable company. His job is safe, however we are hoping to move within the next few years anyway so if he did get laid off we would just move sooner.

I can't wait to get out of this state and this part of the country. It is depressed and DEPRESSING!!!!!!!!!! Thats probably the reason I'm always wanting to leave and go somewhere else....LOL!

Basically, what your friend is offering you is $800 less than what you want, and you've already spent $120 advertising it with no return on THAT investment, so you've just cut your profit to $680 minus the monthly insurance cost for it of $75(I think that's what you said) so you've now cut your profit to $605. Every month that you hang onto it, it costs you $195 for advertising and insurance, so in 3 more months, you're going to eat through that $800 "profit" you may have made if you hung on to the car and sold it yourself.

Seeing as how you live in a fairly "depressed" area and you have a sure thing offer of $4200, I'd go for it. Last year we considered selling my Explorer XLT 1998, with a good many nice options, and in good condition, and it was worth about $6000. $4200 sounds like a pretty fair offer for a 1997.

I'd sell it to your buddy and plan my trip!

Even though you don't like where you live, you're very fortunate! Like you, I don't like where I live (only 30 min. from WDW) and live for the day DH and I can move to a cooler climate. If these Dis Boards are around when we near retirement, I'll have to see 'bout working out a house trade with a Diser wanting to be near WDW! It could happen! :sunny:

Yep it could happen!!

We've considered Florida. DH even had a job offer in Brandon a while back. Our concern about Florida is the same as yours.....the heat. Living in Mississippi we don't have much cold weather. We don't want to be freezing every single second but we do want a winter.

We are thinking Oregon or Washington State right now......Florida is still in the running and it will just all come down to everything we find out when we start seriously looking.

We were walking out of Wal-Mart last night and I told DH....I can't help but wish we lived in Orlando. We are so board, there is nothing here to do.......I wish I could say......Lets go to MK for a few hours.

Beth, I say go for it. Taking an $800 loss on a used car is really not bad.

Too bad those APs don't expire later. We arrive at WDW on 9/11, and I'd sure love to see you guys again.

Anyway, sell the truck and plan your romantic getaway to WDW. It's really a great place to spend w/o your kids, believe me!!!!

Sure, go for it. :) Hey, a car's just a hunk of metal -- a vacation is memories that last a lifetime. :)
Took the words out of my mouth Bob. I had a similar debate with my wife before our first WDW trip. I had an endowment policy that matured and we'd always said we'd use that money for a trip to WDW. When the time came though, she got cold feet and wanted to spend the money on a car. I persuaded her otherwise and it's one of the best decisions we've made.

If we'd bought the car, it would be long gone and forgotten by now. That first trip to WDW will never be forgotten.

I say GO TO DISNEY! :teeth:

Well said!!

Aww Keli I would sooo love to see you and Stephen again :(

John and I are going to discuss it when he gets home.

If we decide to go the next big question will be to fly or not to fly.

That sounds like a fair price.. heck, if you were selling it a month ago, and were closer I would buy it!

This is what I'd do, tell the person you want a week. Put their offer as the low bid and if you get more than you're ahead.

My sister bought a car on ebay and my understanding is that it works pretty well. Many car dealerships list cars there. Much better than a sign on the windsheild.
