Should we keep our Marceline to Magic tour, or wait till next year's trip?

First, we are getting very excited for our upcoming Xmas trip, beginning on Thanksgiving day!! :cool1: Woo hoo!!:banana::banana:

We have an 11 day/10 night trip with lots of fun things planned! One of those things is the Marceline to Magic tour on the 3rd of Dec. One part of the tour is to go behind the scenes and then ride, the Haunted Mansion ride, which would be really cool, and is one of DD24's fave rides! But, a few months ago we found out that HM would be going down for refurb on Dec 1st!! Argh!!! We will be able to ride it a few times before Dec 1st as we arrive on Thxgvg day, so that is cool. But, we are very disappointed that going behind the scenes won't be part of the tour! We've talked about cancelling and going on our Dec 2015 visit, but haven't been able to decide yet!

Would like to read some thoughts on that from some that may have been on the tour. Is it worth it to go on the tour now regardless, or better to hold off? We have already done the the KTTK tour a couple years ago and really thought that tour was awesome! Btw, we did call and I spoke to a CM who said they had no idea if they would be replacing that part of the tour with behind the scenes of a different ride, or if nothing would replace it and the tour would just be shortened(which would kind of stink, since the cost would stay the same, but you'd get less value for the cost of the tour). And, he said they probably wouldn't even find out if they would be replacing that part of the tour until the last minute. Which figures. But, is the tour so great we won't really notice that something is missing? It's only about a 3 hour tour, and that would shave off maybe 15 - 30 min, I would think. So, any thoughts or insights would be be appreciated to help us decide! TIA!! :goodvibes

I haven't gone on that specific tour, but if you're going back next year, I'd save it for then. Going behind the scenes of the HM and then comparing it to riding it afterward sounds like an incredible experience that is not to be missed. Especially since that's one of your DD24's favorite rides. I'm 30, so not too much older than your DD. When I did similar tours at DLR, I was 25. I would've absolutely loved to have done the HM thing. I'm sure that whatever you decide, it will be magical. If you do end up doing the tour this year and really feel like you missed out, will you pay to take the tour again in 2015? Just a thought.

Thanks for your thoughts! Well, I did think of doing the tour this year, then doing it again next year, lol! I mean, relatively, it's not that expensive, I think it was about $30 for each of us. And, we do plan on doing the KTTK tour again sometime, as we loved that, and I'm sure we missed some stuff that we'd pick up or remember better after another go round, lol. You know, like when you watch a movie over again, like I watch lots of different Xmas movies over each year. Like It's a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, ... but seems like every year I say - oh, I don't remember ever hearing that part before! So, Idk, we might do that, but as you say, what ever we do, we'll have a magical trip! :santa:

Hey, looks like we'll be there the same time, maybe we'll see you! Have a fabulous trip!

The Marceline tour was fantastic, but without the HM segment it would sure knock it down a couple of notches for me, but HM is my fam's favorite attraction.

It will be interesting to see if they re-route the tour to include another attraction or two. My understanding is that the HM segment was added to replace the Snow White dark ride when it closed a few years ago. Of course HM isn't closing permanently, just for a re-furb. But if they re-route the tour, how long will it be before they re-route again to add HM back on to the tour? Hopefully Disney knows how popular HM is, and what with the new Memento Mori shop open they'll quickly add the behind-the-scenes portion back to the Marceline tour. :earsboy:

Hmm, interesting, I didn't know that it used to have the Show White ride included instead. I would hope they'd put the HM section back in after the refurb was finished. I could see them not replacing this section of the tour, saying that it wasn't worth it, since HM would be back again in a few weeks after the refurb was completed. It sure would be nice if they'd let guests know what, if anything, would replace the HM part, so guests could make a better decision - to tour or not to tour. At least if they add something in it's place temporarily, it would keep the value up for the whole tour, instead of a lesser than expected experience. I know the rest of the tour would still be great, but definitely something would be missing! Anyone else have any thoughts on this tour?

We went "Backstage" at the HM during our Keys to the Kingdom tour several years ago. It is not really that great of an experience.

Oh, hmmm, now that you say that, we did do that KTTK tour, so we must have done the HM as well. But, I thought I read that it was more involved in the MtoM tour. One thing I remember reading is that you go under the ride where the dining room is and have to be quiet so the riders directly up above don't hear you. So that makes me think the behind the scenes at HM on this tour is more involving than on the other tour. But, thanks for the reminder. I didn't even remember that from the KTTK tour, maybe because it was not too much of 'behind the scenes' I suppose.

Have you done both tours, by chance? Was there a good bit on HM in the MtoM tour? Hmm, I guess we are leaning towards waiting till next year, but still not sure, lol. I hate not being able to decide, lol. Is that the only ride they do on this tour?

Welcome to the Dis! :)
