Should we go in July?

DH and I normally go during the cooler months (January-March, October-December). We are considering relocating to FL(Jacksonville where I can transfer) due to some health issues I am having. I have lived in TX (desert) and Georgia. We are in KY and it gets very hot here in the summer with high humidity (several stretches with days in the upper 90's and high humidity. I found our summer weather to be comparable with what I had in GA. I keep hearing how awful FL is in the summer. Is it really that much worse than GA but of a shorter duration. Should we go down in July and see for ourselves? BTW my health issue is helped by hot humid air, I am great here in the summer but the winters are awful!

WE honeymooned in Aug. and have been back several times in the heat of summer. We live in SE Pa. and hear the same thing from people. Honestly It's in the 90's with 100? Humidity here as well but @ the least Fl. there's water everywhere to keep cool.

IMHO you'd probably do fine.

We went for a week last July. Yes it's hot but definitely doable. We are early risers and the mornings weren't bad. We might take a break in the afternoon and return in the evening. We live in Arkansas and are used to hot humid summers. I would give it a shot.

We love summer trips. They are so relaxing for us. We relax on our balcony and the pool area, then head to a park after dinner when it's cooler. Just makes a wonderful vacation for just the two of us.

Unfortunately, due to my kids being school aged, we only tend to go in July. We are from California so we are NOT used tot he humidity so you have an advantage that wed dont have. With that said: Honestly, its not that bad. We are early risers so we hit the parks early. We bring spray bottles to mist each other often (adding ice water). We dress in light clothes. Stay hydrated and dont try to do too much at a time! Hit the pools and the water parks and you'll be fine!

The first 2 weeks of last July, the fairly typical high 80's, low 90's in FLA was much nicer than the 100's I escaped up north in the Midwest ;)

It also helped that I discovered moisture-wicking tech shirts (like under armor)

Too hot for us in July. The last time we did it, we said never again. The difference between being hot at home & hot at Disney, is that at Disney most of the activities are outdoors. When at home, you are mostly indoors where it is cooler. I understand that those with children in school can't always avoid the hot summers, but if you don't have to go in the summer, you avoid the extreme heat & the extreme crowds. We could probably deal with one, but not both.

DS & DDiL have lived in Atlanta, Boston & now Lithia FL. I asked them how Lithia (near Tampa) summers compared to Atlanta ones.

DDiL says...No. I actually think Atlanta was hotter. There's a little more breeze in Lithia. It's hot, but not intolerable. It was hotter in MA in July when we visited. The pool will make it ok. :)

DS says........

It rains more in the summer here than in Atlanta. It was brutal in Atlanta, I don't think it is quite as bad here, but it is definitely hot. It's always nice at the beach, and having a pool I think will also help tremendously. Winters are 100x better here than Atlanta. It's going down to 36 tonight, but it will be in the 80's in a few days......

It's going to be hot & packed with tour groups. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for all the responses. We know that July is bad for crowds but we were thinking about going just to test the weather. I figure if we relocate to Jacksonville we will still go to Disney in the "off season". I am sure if living in FL we will spend most of the summer in the air conditioned inside since we will be working full time. We hate "wasting" what little vacation we get with a trip to check out the weather. Maybe we will just stick with our plan of October and December for this year knowing it is FL and will be hot in in the summer.:goodvibes

My family loves the summer months!
Water Parks, Swimming, Florida Sunshine!!!
Yea its hot, its summer!
Plan accordingly and you will have a great trip!

but you seem to have a plan.

Parks early and late with pool time or waterpark time in the middle has always worked for us.

We drink tons of water all the time but even more when it is hot.

We tend to do more indoor attractions as well like hall of presidents, Mickey's Philharmagic, haunted mansion, sountry bear jamboree, the circlevisions in epcot, Ellen, The seas, journey to imagination etc. and hit the ourdoor ones in the early and late hours. While Wishes is on you can breeeze through a lot of rides and the same at Epcot during illuminations.

Have a good trip! We are planning to relocate to Florida soon ourselves :)

go!

the parks are open later than in the non-crowded months - and the EMH can make the mk hours until 3am.

doing it myself - to be sure can take the heat closer to Orlando

Personally, I don't mind the summers. In NJ the summers are hot anyway. But you do have to plan your trip differently. We like to hit the parks heavy in offseason months, but summer we hit a park early, and by 11 to noon, we get out and get back to a pool. Since summer hours are longer so we spend lots of downtime/ naps at the resort. As the sun goes down we'll make our way back to a park, and stay late. Summer trips for us require a longer stay as we can't stay in the parks/ heat as long, but compared to a nov trip we are guaranteed the weather will allow pool use. Doesn't matter what the water temp in offseason, my kids won't get in when the air temp drops below 80.

NO IT IS TO HOT:sad2::drinking:

The average Orlando high in July is only 92. That's only 2 degrees warmer than up in the Midwest ( where we have humidity, too)

The all-time high in Orlando is only 102. It's 114 up here...

But it's all personal preference. If a humid 94 is undesirable to you, don't go. To me that a good and expected summer temperature.
