Should we get housekeeping on day 4?

We're renting a 2 bedroom at BLT from Nov. 6 - 13. I know that on day 4 they'll provide new towels, but I'm wondering if I should pay for a full cleaning on that day. (I've been reading another thread on here about cockroaches and rats and am feeling quite freaked!!!) Please tell me you've never had a problem at BLT. Please don't tell me if you have!! :scared1:

Regarding the cleaning - how long does it take? I'll have an almost 3 year old who will hopefully still be needing an afternoon nap. Could I request that they do it in the am while we're gone to a park? What is the cost again?

Thanks,
Tricia

I've never stayed at BLT, but haven't seen any reports of roaches and rats on the DVC boards. If there was a problem, there would have been reports here.

Personally, I wouldn't pay for a full cleaning, but that's up to you. I'm sure you can request an AM cleaning.

The only thread about rats I've seen was about traps at the Magic Kingdom. I've stayed at BLT twice and have NEVER seen rats or cockroaches there.

2BR is $60. Cleanings are usually in afternoon but can request other time of day (although you cannot be assured housekeeping will get it right). You should assume it will take about 40 to 45 minutes.

You are not likely to see any cockroaches or rats.

In over 30 DVC stays at all of the resorts I've never seen a roach, not even outside, frogs, bunnies & the occasional snake perhaps. I've never seen a rat either. BLT is a newer resort and I haven't read or heard of anything like this. We take out our trash daily, that doesn't mean we put it out in the hall, we actually take out to the trash collection area (different at each resort) and we keep the kitchen clean. To date the biggest issues are mosquitoes hanging around the outside lights and at times, love bugs. I wouldn't worry!;)

The only time I ever saw a bug in the room was when we left the balcony door open at BWV to watch the fireworks. I looked back into the room through the glass and saw a "palmetto bug" running across the carpret. If there are any bugs it's not from lack of cleanliness, it's just that Florida has alot of bugs around. I wouldn't pay $60 for a full cleaning. If you are going to do it, I would get it on another day because they will not subtract the value of the trash & towel that is included.

Ah, reassurance of cleanliness - just what I was looking for!!! Thank you all!

we have yet to stay at a dvc resort (first trip home coming up in september!) and i just know we won't be paying for the housekeeping. not that i think they do a bad job, i just don't think it's worth the money for them to just make the beds and do a little dusting.

and i'm going to erase the thoughts of rats and cockroaches from my memory ewwwww! i doubt they will be a problem anyway. i only want to see two mice at disney: ::MickeyMo and ::MinnieMo

Not necessary. If you have a major problem, it should just be taken care of. Otherwise, we don't clean our house every 4 days, so towels and trash is good for us.

Not sure where you've been reading about cockroaches & rats in DVC units....never seen anything like that on any of our DVC stays. Regardless tho, a full cleaning on day 4 would not solve such a problem. IMO it is not needed and would be a waste of good money.

We've been members of DVC for over 13 years, and in over 30 stays, we have never seen a cockroach or rat. I've seen a tree frog or two, and even an enole, but that's to be expected in Florida.

Also in that 13 + years, I've only oredered an extra full cleaning once, and that was in a 2 bedroom for a day when we had one set of guests leaving and one set coming. All I can tell you about that is that it was totally not worth the $60 price tag. I expected them to do everything they did before check in, and that was not what I got. If you feel you need fresh towels, you can always wash them in the provided washer and dryer in the unit.
