Should we do MGM the first evening?

We arrive in Orlando on Saturday, April 12. We will have UPHs. The first thing my DD12 and DD15 want to do is go to MGM and hit RnR and TOT. We should be able to get to the park between 4 and 5 p.m.

Do you think we should do this or are we just setting ourselves up for very long lines and no fast passes. We would like to see Fantasmic, will we be able to fit that in? (8:30 showing only that evening)

If you're willing to use one the days on your pass for a few hours at MGM, then sure. The lines should be tolerable, although I suspect Fastpass's will be all gone by 5 or so. I would wait and give a whole day to MGM.

I thought a UPH was like the old "length of stay passes" & that you could come & go as you please to the parks. If this is the case then I would go to MGM that first evening. If not, then I would plan a whole day also.

MGM is a great park to go to on your first night. Just check out the lines for TT & RnR and see what you can do. If the lines are too long and the FP are already gone, just see a show and go on Great Movie Ride instead. Have a quick dinner at Toystory Pizza or ABC Commissary. Then, definately go to Fantasmic.

Have a great time!

Hi Jody,
Our family is going to be at MGM on Sat. the 12 th of April as well! We are planning on going to Fantasmic! that night ( I didn't make a Fantasmic! package PS- too expensive- so I hope we get a good seat!) I hope you all have a great trip and maybe we will scream together on the RR or ToT!

If you aren't travel fatigued I think it's a great idea. You can try for FP for RNR and TOT, but if you can't get them, grab some dinner, catch a few of the other attractions, and get ready for Fantasmic.

I'm pretty sure that you CAN'T book a dinner package during peak season times. Just get to Fantasmic at least 1 - 1 1/2 hours in advance. We take sandwiches and snacks with us & have a "picnic" dinner while waiting for the show to start. :)

I just got back from WDW and made a mistake with MGM. We only had 4 shows we wanted to see, and one ride, so figured coming after lunch would be plenty of time. Here's the problem. Many of the shows do not run continuously. You can pick up a schedule for the day at the front of the park. If all you want to do is ride the rides, you should be fine.

According to the schedule when I was there (park hours were 9-7)

Beauty & the Beast - first show 10:15, last show 4:15

Who Wants to be a millionaire - first show 10:30, last show 5:30

Little Mermaid - first show 9:30, last show 6:00

Playhouse Disney - first show 10:00, last show 5:30

Indiana Jones - first show 10:15, last show 5:30

We did OK but did alot of figuring to determine which shows to see when. We ended up skipping Mermaid due to time constraints but did everything that was a priority.

If I had it to do over I would plan a whole day.
