Should this BILLBOARD be removed?

The billboard is on an expressway. At 3:30 PM the area eastbound has tremendous sun glare at this time of year. The billboard is for a jeweler. It is of a beautiful naked lady laying on what looks like a white ( bearskin? ) rug. You can't "see anything" obviously.

Today, at 3:30 PM I passed this BB and I immediately stared at it. So, not only was I looking at the BB, but when I turned my head back to the road there was a lot of glare.

Incredibly distracting, and then adding sun glare doesn't help. I'm not sure if women would look at a nearly naked man the same way, but I think most men would tend to look.... and that means looking away from the road.

EDIT: it is also on a small curve, so as soon as you are past the sign is when you get the sun glare.

For glare it should be removed--but if you can't see anything (except through your imagination)--nothing inherently wrong with the billboard.

Billboards are meant to catch attention--I think the ones with words would be more distracting (since you can't just glance--you gotta read it).

I'd be more concerned about the glare (but not sure if the billboard is glaring--or if b/c you just stared at a bright--mostly white toned sign...that it just made an image on your retina (? sorry--not up on my eye anatomy). If the latter is the case--then it really isn't glare per se. (when I think of glare--I think of blinding brightness while looking at something...not after the fact).

I agree with Lisa Loves Pooh, billboards are supposed to grab your attention. I know there are a lot that catch my eye, I don't really know how this one is different. It is apparantly doing what it was meant to do.

Here is how "I" see this one is different. Most will get your attention over a period of time. It might take 15 or 20 ( or more, or less ) times before you even really know what the BB is about. But you see a nearly naked 30 foot wide attractive woman, and it will make you look. Seeing a BB for Commerce Bank, Bob Smith's Chevy...... well, they don't make your head turn away from the road. Quite likely you may never even notice that you saw it.

There's nothing you can do about the sun's glare. Is the sun reflecting off the billboard too or is it just the combination of woman/glare? Like LLP said, billboards are supposed to grab your attention. You (the collective you) need to be grown-up and not let it distract you.

Sure hope ya don't have one with a naked Chippendales kinda guy near you..... it is not easy not to look..... especially the first time you see it. Today was the first time I saw it. Good luck!

Honestly, you see far more suggestive billboards in other parts of the country.

I'm sorry--I'm still not following...are you being "blinded" by this glare--and it is after the sign? It has got to be something else (or your eye is just retainig the very light/bright image).

Sorry to sound like an idiot--I have VERY sensitive eyes, so lots of glaring, bright headlights...basically bright stuff--blind me a lot. But usually it is as I am passing whatever is causing it--not after. I wear sunglasses in the day--and when i remember to bring them along..very lightly tinted sunglasses at night (still begging the eyecare industry to make glasses for night vision--but noooooo ). Very rarely do i have problems with glare--except when someones windshield catches the sun just right.

Perhaps wear sunglasses when you drive?

Maybe it is a man thing--the closest thing I can think of that would make me go would be a billboard of Matthew McConnehey (sp?) or Hugh Jackman--and even then I would glance...and then return my eyes to the road.

I think household Christmas Displays are more dangerous than a billboard. They decorate them so pretty--but lots of times I can't see them b/c I am driving. So we should ban them all so that I can drive peacefully.

Eh, if it's suggestive (sounds like it is) I would want it gone. We don't need our highways and roads littered with suggestive sexual pictures. Yuck.

I can't see any reason why there should be nudity on billboards - regardless of whether you actually see private parts. It's just too darn suggestive IMO. Maybe the fact that I'm the mother of two boys factors into my opinion though.

I totally agree. I also have no problem with "suggestive" billboards as long as they don't actually show anything vulgar...Oh..and I am the Mom of two boys.

The billboad sounds in poor taste. It wouldn't make me want to shop at that store.

As far as glare, get a pair of sunglasses.
