Should my DW be nervous about Flight of Passage?

I have heard that the FoP is like "Soarin on Steroids." My DW loves that attraction and I am getting the sense that this new experience emulates much of that technology--albeit in a grander, more sensory intense way. My main concern is with the ride vehicle itself. How comfortable or uncomfortable is it? And what about this "locking in" sensation--does it make you feel restricted and likely to put stress/pressure on your body parts (she is very sensitive to "extra" pressure sensation.)? Is she likely to feel claustrophopic in/on the vehicle?

Thanks in advance!

Is she likely to feel claustrophopic in/on the vehicle?

If she is, she will likely feel it before the attraction even starts. Once the wall opens to the screen it feel much more wide open. Once the seat closes on her if she is uncomfortable just grab a CM.

I also disagree with the Soarin on Steroids...Soarin feels like I am looking at a screen with rigid screen shifts. FoP feels like you're actually flying. It's like Soarin in that you look at a screen but it's a completely different feeling experience IMO. I was never comfortable nor was anyone in our group. I rode with someone who was about 6'4" and around 300lb and he was high-fiving the whole way off so it's not size regulated as much as it is body type and position in the seat.

If someone likes Soarin, FoP is everything Soarin wishes it could be.

I too was wondering about this as I have a tendency to get claustrophobic especially if my legs or feet are not able to move freely. One of the reasons I am not a fan of Rockin' Rollercoaster is because they have to lock you in. :crazy2:

My wife avoids roller coasters, yet she really enjoyed FOP. She is also a fan of Soarin'.

It is so hard to say. For us, the locking mechanisms were comfortable and barely noticeable. Others report a different experience.

With regard to claustrophobia, you are in a room with 7 others. You are not isolated alone in a small space. You can find many photos of the space where the ride vehicles are located. You can look to the left and right and, depending on where you are seated, can see perhaps 15-25 ft. This is all during loading.

Once the ride starts, it is hard to imagine claustrophobia being an issue. Like Soarin, you are looking out at landscape on a screen.

I think how comfortable or uncomfortable someone is on a ride varies by person and by the ride, physically and mentally we're all different.I had no problem on FoP,I'm pretty average size and just hopped on the seat which feels like you're on a motorcycle,I felt something hit my lower back and my legs a little bit but overall I was comfortable with no claustrophobia issues.Mission Space is a ride I used to ride often when new but today I rarely if ever ride it,at a certain point the ride started getting boring for me and I do get a tad claustrophobic in it.I've also found some rides where my legs get restrained or I can't move them much I have to start thinking happy thoughts or risk freaking out, once the ride gets going I'm fine but if I sit there at the loading/unloading for too long or god forbid the ride stops and I'm in there sitting for an extended time, who knows how I'll react.I've heard others say their issue is the upper body, the opposite of my issue, for me as long as I can kick my legs around or move them I'm good.In FoP I think just being in that position straddling the seat like on a bike takes away from issues,it just puts you on a mind frame like you're going to ride off somewhere and once the ride starts it feels so realistic like you're flying I can't imagine having claustrophobia issue.Physically I don't know just how comfortable or uncomfortable a larger person would be.

Can't answer OP's question since I haven't and will not ride it, but for all those taking claustrophobia and the size of the room -
I'm extremely claustrophobic - it isn't just the size of the room that needs to be considered. Knowing that I'm so restrained would have me in a panic - this is definitely a ride I will never experience.
OP - if your wife rides it I hope she has a blast and that it is a complete nonissue for her!

What about motion sickness? I am not claustrophobic, but get extremely motion sick. I can do Soarin & Mission Space green just fine. But roller coasters, rides that whip you around or other motion simulators, no. I don't know if I should try it or not.

I'm afraid of heights. Terrified. The first time I rode Soarin my eyes were closed a lot! (I've since learned I can ride with no problems in the 3rd row). Flight was a very different experience. I wasn't a huge fan of feeling locked in the seat at first, but feeling so secure holding on like a motorcycle I was able to ride twice with no problems at all!

I am claustrophobic and Mission Space almost gave me a panic attack. But I didn't have any problems with FoP. The room is large and the screen isn't close to your face like it was with Mission Space. I felt the bar behind my back but I never felt constrained ny it. I never felt the bar across the back of my legs.

Now the last room before you enter the atual ride felt a little claustrophobic. The attraction is set up like you are in an underground bunker, deep in a mountain. And I wasn't crazy about that feeling, but it was manageable.

I did get some motion sickness on the ride, though. I don't like screens where you are "swooping" like an airplane soaring down a mountain, and there was plenty of that during this ride. I was shaky afterwards and in no hurry to ride it again. /but I didn't get sick.
