Should I talk my wife out of SOA?

We are trying to put together our next Spring Break trip and we've been talking about attending a dinner show since we've never been. We would be going on arrival night and not having a character meal, which is what we usually do. My wife wants to go to the Spirit of Aloha show and I started searching and reading, I was surprised to find so many negative comments about the SOA. I don't want to waste our money or our time on a bad show. We have 2 children (5-12.)

So my question is "do I try and talk my wife into something else?" If she REALLY wants to go, we will, but do I talk her out of it or not?

Yeah the reviews for the food & show are usually not great. I wouldn't waste 2 dining credits or pay OOP for it. I'd rather do Ohana or Kona Cafe instead. Or Hoop de doo gets way better reviews as far as dinner shows go.

We have been to SOA twice, once when DD was around 10 and again last year at 22. We always loved it but if you feel like the children wouldn't like it I would do Hoop De Doo and then maybe SOA when they are a little older. I could see kids getting bored with it.

Was great back in the 90's. Heard its gone down hill significantly hence why I've never been back.

Disney even tells you which dinner show is more well-received.

There are 21 performances of Hoop Dee Doo Revue offered per week.

There are 10 performances of Spirit of Aloha offered per week.

I have kid's in your age range (9 & 13)

I WAS signed up for HDDR, based on the feedback here.

But then I showed my DD youtube videos of each. For my kids (and ymmv), hula dancers and fire twirlers are way cooler than corny jokes and songs.

I've switched to SOA. It was the right call for us.

I'd recommend watching the shows ahead of time, then deciding for yourself

I would sway her towards something else. The show is kind of cheesy and boring (except for the fire dancer). The food is just ok and, depending on when you go, it can be really hot and buggy. Not a fun evening......especially for little ones.

We are trying SOA in November despite the bad reviews....I am with PP, Hoop De Doo does not look like it is that great of a show, other than for nostalgic reasons. I have not seen it, but my friend took her kids and they were bored. I guess, different strokes for different folks There seems to be people who love SOA and those who hate it...I figure it is worth a try once. There are lots of things that others love that I don't care for and vice versa. If your wife really wants to go, I wouldn't talk her out of it. I am excited to try a dinner show for the first time

What about Mickey's Backyard BBQ? My little girl (5) loves to dance and move and this seems right up her ally.
