We are currently booked at the CBR FTP 9/20 - 9/27 I recently thought that it would be nice to change to the AKL, I called Disney to see how much more it would be to switch to the AKL and it would be an additional $297.00, would it be worth the additional money to change resorts?

I think that the major difference between these is that the CBR is more like a bunch of little hotels with one central area for food and check-in and the AKL is one giant hotel with everything right there. If you've never been to the AKL it is great. Good food and great atmosphere. I would switch if I was you.

That seems like a great price. Did they quote you savannah view rooms? We're leaving next Monday for a week at AKL with the FTP. I originally had booked POR and then switched last week. We've got 2 savannah view rooms and we're paying over $500 more for each room. I think it will be worth the price.

Check out the Travel Channel this Thurs. (7/31) at 12:30. AKL will be featured on Great Hotels. Maybe this will help you make up your mind. Anyway, GO CARDS!

There is no comparison between the two. I would chose AKL if you can afford difference in price. The AKL is my favorite resort - you don't have to share buses with any other resort, great food court and restaurants, and wonderful activities for the entire family. Whichever your choice, have a magical vacation.

DH & I have stayed at both. We spent 10 days at CBR in 2001 and 6 days at AKL last July with DS (15 Yrs Old). CBR was nice, but we would absolutely rather stay at AKL. We faxed in room requests and received an upgrade to Savannah View. It was wonderful. Foodcourt at CBR is better IMHO, but still would rather stay at AKL.

Pugrpooh,

Thanks for the info about the Travel Channel, I will be sure to set the VCR.

My price is just for the standard view, I did not check the savannah view. I hope you have a magical trip and I am glad to see that you are from Kentucky - Go Cards!

People either love the AKL or it is not their cup of tea. It wasn't ours. I found it too dark and too cold. The rooms were very small and the outside area where you can walk around was very limited. I am a big fan of the CBR but living in Colorado it is very tropical compared to what we are used to here. That is why we would never care to stay at the CSR. The pros and cons of the AKL have been explored here at length and it is just what turns you on about a resort that you need to consider. We love the AK. It has become one of our absolute favorite parks and I must say the first couple of days at the AKL went fine but a week of it was overkill for us. Yet there were people absolutely infatuated with it at every turn while we were there. To each his own as the saying goes.

I have always stayed at CBR, last year my sister traveled to WDW with us and her and her family decided on AKL. After they came and saw CBR and fell in love with it, they wished they had booked CBR and not AKL and saved the additional $$$$$. I went over to see their deluxe room and it did not fit my taste. CBR is light and airy and pastel colors and tropical paradise. AKL is Africa and dark wood and while the outdoor atmosphere was nice and while the lobby was kind of fancy, it wasn't my kind of place. I guess it all depends on what you like. I am lucky because both my husband and I have good jobs and we can stay anywhere we like, but even so, CBR is our favorite. Next year we are going to change to OKW because we have never tried it, and it will be hard for me to switch even though I have seen pictures of OKW and think it is just as nice. My heart will always belong to CBR.

I just switched our reservations from POR to ALK last week. I have no problem with POR but DH is not a fan of the food court. I like the fact that there are hair dryers, ironing boards and irons already there. And balconies, I love balconies. The difference was about 300.00 for a standard view (I'm hoping we have a nice view of the parking lot!) At least if it rains we won't be stranded in our room. AKL is a beautiful place - I believe it was designed by the same person that designed WL. I added a night at the beginning of our FTP so that we could start our FTP park tickets in the morning (we are driving and won't get to WDW until midafternoon) and added a night at the end so that we could take advantage of the park tickets the day after the 7th night.

I like CBR too, but I would switch.

We had the same reservations about AKL as FranW when we stayed there last October. We also love the CBR and will return there next December and for our honeymoon in June.

We do make it a point to visit the AKL every trip, but we find one evening and a meal at Boma is enough for us. Besides, we prefer the resort feel of CBR as opposed to the hotel feel of AKL.

Just my 2 cents.

Another vote for AKL!

We have always had a great time at AKL. The views, pool, dining, and yes even the bus transportation are great. Either we have just been lucky or the buses seem to come more frequently here.

It seems as if the buses have fewer or no additional stops before arriving at the parks than other resorts we have stayed at. :)

Also, for approximately $42 more per night...I think AKL becomes a better value!

Good Luck and Enjoy!

I would definitely switch!! I'll be there the same days as u, and i booked it for $109 a night!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

we have decided to switch to the AKL, we have stayed at CBR 2 times and CSR 2 times and enjoyed both of them, but I think we are ready to try something new and I think that my 2 yo son will enjoy being able to view the animals.

Like you Nanalisa I like the idea of having a hairdryer, iron and ironing board already in my room - hope you have and nice trip - maybe you will get lucky and get upgraded to a Savannah View!

Disneygurl588, maybe we will run into you since we will be there the same time, if you see someone chasing after a little boy named blake, it will be me.

Thanks everyone for your replies, they were really helpful.

I think you little Blake will love it! We had a Savanah view the last time we stayed there so yes, an upgrade from the standard view would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. We'll just look at the parking lot and watch animals of the human kind! Maybe a view of the bell boys in their safari shorts:eek: :p

Have fun!
