Should I stay w/ family or stay at Mariott TownPlace Suites?

A relative of mine offered their apartment for my family to stay in while we spend 2 days at Disneyland. The apartment is in Santa Ana (which is about 12 minutes from Disneyland I think!), but my sister told me it's not a very nice part of town. Is it? We would have the apartment all to ourselves as well. On the other hand I was thinking of booking a room at the Mariott TownPlace Suites which according to Yahoo Maps, says it's about 5 minutes from Disneyland and they offer a free shuttle there so we wouldn't have to take our car. TownePlace Suites has kitchens in every room too.

I don't know what the parking situation is like in Disneyland, and if it's better to go on a shuttle. Do the shuttles leave you closer? I don't know what to do! What do you all think?
