Should I request rooms at SSR?

We are going to WDW in early Dec.. We will be staying at SSR for the first time. We usually stay at VWL and have stayed once at OKW. I requested ahead of time and got the building I wanted at OKW. I was just wondering if I should go through the trouble of requesting a certain building or rooms at SSR. I tried looking at resort maps, but can't figure out where we want to be. Our group includes a 1 yr old, 4 yr old, me and my husband, and my parents, so we have all age groups to consider. We have reservations for a 1bdr and a studio. Anybody who has been to SSR several times have any ideas about where to request or should we just see what we get?

Welcome to the DIS!!

I have stayed several times in the Congress Park area which is very nice with its own pool and bus stop. We have had some lovely views of Downtown Disney there.

I know some people also like to request the Springs area which is near the main pool and restaurant. I have not tried any other area myself, though, besides Congress Park.

Welcome Home.

Given that you will be visiting SSR in December, I would say that being near the themed pool is of little benefit. I realize they heat the pools (but it aint heated when you get out of the pool) :) It would be nice to be near the restaurants if you plan to eat at SSR often though/

I would suggest Congress Park (same as PP) w/ a view of Downtown Disney if available. Pleasure Island fireworks are nice to view from the balcony at night. I think you can get a DTD view from Grandstand also.

Here is a link to the SSR map on this website:

Thanks so much for the tips and the welcomes! I really appreciate both. We never take the time to swim when we're at WDW, but I would love for my 4 yr old daughter to be able to see the fireworks from our room balcony. That and being close to the restaurant would be great. Thanks again, and I would love to hear more ideas if anyone has any.

Does pleasure Island still do fireworks? I thought they stopped those a few years back?

Yikes, that would be bad. I could have sworn I saw fireworks at DTD when I was there earlier this month.

Then again, it could have been the after-effects of that last adult beverage at Ragland Road.......

There was a brief fireworks show on Saturday the 15th. It was after the Water Skiing Competition held on the DD lake.
