Should I keep trying to upgrade my AKL standard room?

I got the 40% pin code so I switched our free dining reservation at POR to a room only at AKl, my favorite resort.

I'm thrilled to be staying at AKL and don't really mind that only standard rooms were available but it would be even nicer if a better room opened up! One can dream? Right?

So what do you think? Is there any chance that a different room category will become available with my discount code? Anyone have any luck with this?

I would keep checking , especially if it is before the 45 day mark when many pkg get cancelled opening up rooms , you just never know and have nothing to lose by keeping on checking, when are you going?

We are past the 45 day mark, we're going at the end of September!

I check every day at different times for a 1 bdroom villa to open up at WL with the 40% off for 1 day in november. There is on available on 11/13 and none on 11/14 .....we have it from 11/15 - 11/22 and just trying to add on.

Not sure tho being that you are within 45 days if much will open up, but maybe someone with just a room ressie will change their mind or something. Good luck !

Just curious...when did you receive a 40% Pin Code and was it an e-mail? We were a little disappointed that the current special was only a 25% discount at AKL, but we applied it to the room-only reservation that we had (every little bit helps).

As far as a better room type opening up for you, definitely keep checking online. My parents were booked in a Standard last December and wanted to upgrade. I kept checking for them and a pool view opened up about a week or two before their dates. When they arrived at check-in, they were "magically" upgraded to concierge for their 2-night stay.

I must be the odd duck. Even though something might open up, I'd stop checking and allow myself psychologically to get excited about what I had. Otherwise, every time I checked and couldn't upgrade, I'd have that disappointment which wouldn't let me enjoy the anticipation of the stay.

I'd let it go, and just ask at check-in if we could upgrade.

We are staying at AKL from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28th with a 40% off discount code that I received back on 12/25/09 for most dates throughout 2010 (current year).

I made our reservations back in March for a Savannah view room. However, we wanted CL. I have been calling weekly...and its not looking good...although I still call. It is my understanding that AKL does not have as many CL rooms as the other resorts/

Also, what doesn't help is that they offered the public 40% code (an extension of the summer discounts through Oct. 2nd) for the deluxe resorts. I tried using that discount (thinking although its the same discount...its a different block of rooms) but still no CL rooms available.

I have three more weeks to keep trying.

In March I made a reservation using 40% off pin code at the Poly. We recently decided to upgrade to CL, but it wasn't available with the 40% code. I checked daily several times a day for a couple of weeks. It finally became available yesterday. Our trip is in October. I would keep trying.

I think the odds of moving up from standard are pretty good, as there are relatively few standard rooms. We once booked a PIN for a standard at AKL
and when we got there, with the timing of room assignments and all, they simply didn't have a standard available. We got a free upgrade to savanna view.
