Our family can fly standy for 65.00 roundtrip through my work, but Im afraid to because we never have. Is it a good idea or bad one? Anyone with any experiences flying standby I will greatly appreciate you sharing it with me. Thank You:D

Hi Winnie,
A friend of mine is in a similar situation--he is able to take advantage of perks such as flying standby because someone in his family works for the airline.

According to him, as long as he flies at NON peak times he has always been able to get on a flight. I think you have to allow for some flexibility in your schedules.

Good luck with your decision. $65 round trip is a great rate!

How many are in your family? What size are the planes that serve your airport?

There are other things to consider when flying standby as well. If you don't make it, will you lose a prepayment on your hotel?

We will have 3 adults and 2 teens, we will departing Sept.4 and returning Sept. 8

when you say standby due to your work is it an airlines?(what carrier?) if so then you can reroute yourself thru various cities if necessary. and if possble have 1st class upgrades to use if necessary. if possbile you may have to fly to the next city then take a commuter flight to orlando or fly into tampa and drive over to orlando.....if you need help rerouting yourself let me know I got to be pretty good at it!

If your airport is served by full size jets (vs. regional jets or prop planes), you shouldn't have a problem standing by on September 4th, as that shouldn't be a very busy travel day to Orlando. Returning on the 8th, however, may be a little more problematic, so it would be best that you be at the airport in time for the first flight out.

The other thing to remember is that you will probably be seperated. Are all your traveler's comfortable with this. (And by seperated I mean seats and potentially flights!)

Thanks everyone for the information. We wouldnt mind being seperated on our seating on the same plane, but for sure we dont want to be on seperate flights.
