Should I change the weekend of our trip?

Just read that opening of the holiday season is Nov 10. We are planning to be at DL from Nov 2-5. With the opening comes Elena, and I know my daughter totally wants to see her. Flights are SW and can be changed.

Nov 2-5 pros: lighter crowds (but it will be Blizz Con, and also probably the holiday parade taping)

Nov 9-12 pros: holiday decorations, most rides running, possibly Paint the Night returning, Elena will be there

Nov 9-12 has opening of holiday season, Veterans Day, and Avengers half all in the same weekend. Are the crowds going to be so bad it's not worth changing our plans? We've never been to DL during the holidays, so we'd love to see that but...I have a bad feelings about all of those events colliding in the same weekend.

Any thoughts would be super appreciated!!

We've gone that weekend for the past 2 years to do the Avengers runs. It's always the beginning of the holidays and last year it was also the opening of Season of the Force on Monday. The crowds are high, but not insane. With 4 days you should have time to do everything you want, the hours will be longer, entertainment will be running, Christmas parade, etc. It's a really fun time to go if you've never seen the holidays there.

We went there that week last year and it was as busy as a few days in June when we were there. But if Elena is important to you and there's no price increase from switching dates, do it.

We were there the same week last year, also the weekend of Blizzcon. The crowds were fine until Friday night/Saturday.

Thanks everyone!! I don't know why this has to be so hard...my parents are coming with us, and if everything checks out with them I think I'll switch dates. The prospect of a possible PTN is enough to make me want to go that weekend!

I think crowd will be a lot lighter your current weekend. A lot really. Probably half as busy. What about the following weekend?

Other cons: rides may be down for holiday facelift (jingle cruise & small world.
Pro:Elena is staying there for a while. I'd leave it as is or go early December

You should probably know that Dapper Day is also the weekend of the 5th and while the first couple days might not be so bad, I would expect the numbers to rise into the weekend. Dapper Day itself is on Sunday the 6th, but the expo at The DLH is Saturday the 5th and the discounted rates are good for a few days before and after that weekend.

My husband has some continuing education stuff in palm springs nov 7/8, so we'll already be in the area...that limits us to the week before and after, unfortunately! For this trip anyway :)

Yeah jingle cruise isn't a big deal but my kids will be bummed about IASW. My husband won't. ha! If those are the only two down I wouldn't be as worried, but I'm wondering if anything else will be refurbished in the week between Halloween and holiday opening

Yes I saw that! I figured Saturday is basically already a crap day regardless of the time of year...we'll probably try to do shows that day, and character meals, and other things that take up time. I figure it's also got to be better than the combo of veterans day/avengers/holiday opening...right?

Just as clarification, we're in Idaho with 3 kids 5 and under, so we're more 1/2x a year visitors - which is why I'm stressing out over a total first world problem!

That's what we're all here for and I don't blame you. I only get to the parks once or twice a year, which is way more than other people, but I still want to maximize our time. It's why I avoid Summer like the plague. Honestly, I've gone to at least one of the Dapper Days the last 4 years and I just assume they will be horrible and I'm always pleasantly surprised :) Sounds like you have the right attitude!
