I've never been, but if I were faced with your situation, I would absolutely go! In a heartbeat!
My wife may attend a conference in San Diego next year. I don't usually tag along on her business trips, but that's one I HAVE to go to, and take a day or two and visit Disneyland!
I would go without expectation, and without the mindset of trying to compare it to Walt Disney World.
To sum up - my vote is go, and have a fantastic time!
