Should I cancel my trip to Paris and/or DLP?

I am very conflicted right now. We are leaving for Europe on July 6 for 8 nights w/ the last four in London and the first four split two and two in Paris and at DLP. I'm disappointed/angered by President Chirac's failure to stay for President Reagan's funeral and am not looking forward to visiting Paris anymore. On the other hand, I do know that Chirac's decision has drawn fire in his own Country and feel I should not take my anger out on the people of France (depsite Bill O"Reilly's boycott). While I would lose a few hundred bucks in changing the itinerary, I think I might feel better about the decision. What to do?

I don't think that you should let that ruin your trip! You aren't responsible for what happens in the political arena! By the way, I do watch O'Reilly, although I rarely agree with him!:sunny:

Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me. Think how you will feel if you later learn he had a good ( perhaps personal ) reason for leaving. You don't always get the "whole" story immediately from the news.

Feel better now. Just saw that former President Valery Giscard d'Estaing attended. Probably a better choice anyway.

Paris is too beautiful a place to see to miss it based on Chirac's stance. I don't necessarily like the things that our current president has done but it doesn't mean that I wouldn't visit the state of Texas. Remember one man's position does not reflect what an entire country stands for or believes in.

You are going to cancel a trip to Paris since you don't like the Frency President? Can you only travel to places where you agree 100% with the Goverment? You better be careful, Blair has been distancing himself from Bush (I was just in London and the papers were making a big deal of the differences)

I hope that tourists coming to America don't think that way since Bush is pretty unpopular outside the US.

Paris is wonderful. I have found the French people wonderful. They probably don't all agree with their President. There are lots of us who don't agree with our President. That is what democracy is all about.

If I were you, I'd cancel.

That's not to say that I would do the same thing. I wouldn't. But, I can't even imagine entertaining the idea. The fact that you entertained the idea may mean you won't be able to enjoy yourself in France and be a good ambassador of travel for the US.

I would not cancel. Many of the French people do not agree with their government so why take it out on them? I visited Paris a few months ago ( and have been to Paris a few times before) and stayed at DLP. I loved DLP and Paris is beautiful. In my opinion go and enjoy yourself.

I say go

If thats the only reason why you would cancel, then you are really punishing yourself, and missing out on a good vacation.

I went there and felt no anti-Americanism, they even spoke to me in English to accomodate.

Come July, you may feel different about the whole situation.

No way would I give up that opportunity and waste the money. You'd just be needlessly punishing yourself and would probably regret it later. Plus I want you to tell us all about DLP when you get back :teeth:.
