should I buy trip insurance ?

Does anyone buy trip insurance? I've been comparing policies - unsure as to how much I need coverage for. I'm thinking I only need enough coverage to cover the penalties for an unexpected cancellation and the subsequent reschedualing - am I wrong on this? I've spent so much time planning this trip that I don't want to come up short in case something happens - but I don't want to pay for tons of over-kill insurance either.

Whether you buy trip insurance or not is dependent on the cancellation policies of the trip and how much you stand to lose if an emergency arises.

For instance, I have no trip insurance for this upcoming trip because I can cancel just about any part of it (at no cost to me) as late as 5 days prior to the trip. And if I cancel within those 5 days, I only stand to lose one night's deposit at the hotels I have ressies at. The rest of the components have either not been paid for yet (like the rental car) or else can be used at another time (like the PHPs). Trip insurance for the 4 of us would cost more than the hotels deposits would.

However, for our cruise, I bought the insurance. We had to pay the balance in full 45 days prior to departure. Both of us have older parents with their share of health problems. We just didn't want to lose everything we'd paid for our vacation if something were to unexpectedly happen. Plus, the insurance provided for emergency transportation back to the USA if we needed a medical evacuation for any of us.

You would need to weigh the cost of the insurance against what you stand to lose if you had none. Looking at the bottom line will help you with your decision.

well, we changed our room ressie to the 7 for 5 when it came out (couldn't get a ap rate) - the balance on that is due 45 days prior. Does anybody know what the cancel/rebook penalty is on a disney package? I already know that the airfare reticketing fee is $100 per ticket @ US air. Thanks for the responses - Dis has been the best resource!!
