Well, after reading this thread, I am now brave enough to book one way from LGA to MCO on Song for $87.60. I have been checking all possible combinations from LGA and JFK to MCO for July 5-11 , on JetBlue, Song, and Spirit.
Here's my reasoning:
Spirit has the best fare, at $155.20 RT including taxes, but the earliest flight leaves at 8 AM, and so we won't get to MCO until almost 11, then to AKL by 12. That's too late for us, half the day is gone. Also, I just don't feel 100% about Spirit. I know they have a great safety record, but it's the 2-aisle-3 that bothers me. My nerves need at least a 3-aisle-3. So Spirit is out.
jetBlue costs way too much for my dates, $134 going and $154 returning, so they're out.
Song out of JFK is $102 each way, which isn't horrible, but I know I could do better. Also, the earliest Song out of JFK is at 8, and I'd prefer an earlier flight. Also, front seats on that flight out are all booked, so that's another negative. The late return flight has lots of open front seats, but I don't want to pay $102.
And so, I am 99% sure that as soon as I finish typing all this, I'm going to book us on Song out of LGA, great seats, great time out at 6ish, and decent price. I live in Brooklyn, 10 minutes from JFK, and LGA is 20 minutes away, so either airport is fine.
And then I'll keep watching for our return flight. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the fares go down on jetBlue or Song for our return flight. The flight I want is the 8:30 PM MCO to LGA, but it's $122 right now. It'll get lower! And I'll keep checking the seat charts to see how the front rows are doing.
So please wish me luck. I have always bought RTs, but Song and jetBlue operate on one-way fares anyway, so it should be ok. I know I'm making an awfully big deal about all this, but my Disney planning obsession is to blame!
