Having just returned I couldn't believe the No. of smokers that decided the smoking areas were obviously for other people & couldn't possibly be for them! Now I realise that the majority follow the rules & on the whole it's a minority that break them but it was very noticeable across the whole range of parks! If smokers choose to smoke then fine but I don't want their second hand smoke, especially when I'm waiting in a queue with no-where to go!
Ok rant over!!

sure they can have shock batons...as long as i can have one for line jumpers, public peeing incidents, getting rammed by wayward strollers, people who smell, people who can't or don't read signs, people who won't take their meltdown having children back to the hotel for a nap, people who wear perfume that i am allergic too and so on....sound fair?? thought not.

edited to ad:smoking in a queue is just wrong

If a smoker was on a queue, you could have told a CM that it was disturbing you. I agree that this is an issue, but I think that I read that second hand smoke comes with prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke. A couple of seconds as you pass by the smoker will not get you second hand smoke.

Not only does it sound fair, but I wanna be the one to administer all those shocks! (Okay, clearly my current job is getting to me...) :rotfl:

Ahem! Now, where can I apply for that job??? :dance3:

Agreed people should smoke in designated areas but this is WDW and not Nazi Germany.

When we were there last week I watched a man walk through the entrance of EPCOT smoking a big old stogie! :confused3 The CM looked at him and said nothing, when he got to the check bag line, security said nothing :confused3 ...we lost him at the ticket entrance thankfully because it stunk and I do not mind the smell of a good cigar :rotfl2: ...We did not notice any people smoking in non smoking areas last week other than that. :goodvibes

Right, smokers, people who smell, same thing.

but it smells bad, my kids don't want to be around it, and it's against Disney rules-- unless you're in a designated area

we wanna go there?

hopefully this thread is locked down by the time i come home from work tonight...because, as you can see from the post above, it's not gonna be a pretty thread. i posted a lighthearted comment that nobody should be shocked and here come the smoking police. later yawl!

I understand that completely. I hate the smell too. I was only addressing the issue of second hand smoke brought up by the OP.

So are Heely's and the pee'ing in the bushes is a real heath hazard as well.

I agree that smoking should only be done in desigated area but it's simply up to the CM's to politly ask smokers to do so and direct them to the nearest area or ask them to leave.

Oh and there IS NO PROOF THAT SMOKE HARMS YOU IN AN OUTSIDE without prolonged exposure. No different then breathing in all the bus fumes while waiting for the buses.Yes it might stink but will not cause you harm as it's so diluted with fresh air.

But if you insist on giving out Stun guns I will be the first in line and we can go to town.

Second hand smoke by definition would be smoke that you don't create yourself. So, yes you would have second hand smoke. Now, will you suffer the harmful effects of second hand smoke by being exposed for a few seconds-no. But, the OP never mentioned it.

I don't want to be around second hand smoke because it is a nasty smell and if people aren't in a designated area they shouldn't be smoking. The accountant in me makes me big on rules and procedures. :lmao: I think I would hold off on the shock batons though. ;)

popcorn:: as well! This ought be an interesting subject on a saturday night!
I agree that I have a hard time walking past a smoker...I used to be a smoker and I believe it made me more sensitive to the smoke. I have a hard time getting a breath....however, I believe the shock treatment therapy is a bit to the extreme. I hope OP was making a joke, I hate the thought of someone shocking my dear old mom as she sometimes lights up as she is getting to a smoking area. ITA that smoking in a queue is completely unacceptable and you should of reported it immediatly, I know I would have even if it meant losing my spot!

Well, of course I think shock batons would ove the top, but smoking outside of the designated smoking areas is rude and uncalled for. People who do so deserve all the dirty looks, freindly reminders from CMs, etc that they get.
