When my family & I were eating at Gasparilla Grill & Games in the Grand Floridian on time & I want your opinions on weather or not a CM should have told this guest stop what you are doing. What was happening is that he was taking the frozen yogurt & pooring it into his Grand Floridian mug. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't that classify as stealing, so what are your thoughts?

I WOULD IMAGINE THAT IS NOT ALLOWED AND THAT THE CM SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING. mAYBE HE DID NOT SEE IT OR WAS JUST TURNING A BLIND EYE TO IT.
I WOULDN'T LET IT GET TO YOU SO MUCH! JUST YOU ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

Probably, but honestly, if you let that kind of thing get to you you'll never enjoy your vacation! I agree, that is inherently wrong and the guest should have known it, but I wouldn't be mad about the CM not stopping him. I'd just be happy to be at the Grand Floridian! :sunny:

Sounds like stealing to me, but since everyone seems to turn a blind eye to that kind of activity these days it isn't surprising that kind of thing is happening. That whole it is only wrong if I get caught mentality--use it for a lesson to your kids on what not to do and how not to act, then let it go.It is a shame that the CM doesn't have someone with higher authority he can mention it to and then have it stopped.
In our area everyone is enraged that the police are actually ticketing illegally parked cars--I was shocked to see people actually angry that the laws were being upheld. Funny, and as a teacher I know it is true, if you nag about the not so big stuff you never have to deal with the big stuff because people wont even try it.

Perhaps its another one of those things that Disney isnt too "worried" about and has instructed their CMs not to do anything about? Sometimes I think others are more worried about things then Disney obviously is!

I suspect that if everyone did it, Disney would be very worried about it - and probably just move the frozen yogurt or stop selling it. But the CM who was getting paid something in the $7 an hour range (?) doesn't care. His choice is to ignore it, or have a customer go ballistic on him (which is likely if he tries to stop it). And frankly, I don't blame the CM for not being willing to be abused for as little as they get paid.

NCAA...no class at all. I'm surprised that a CM didn't tell him "what" exactly the mugs are for. BOTH the employee and the customer were wrong and knowing me and I'm very honest....I would have nicely pointed out to the customer that the mugs are for beverages....NOT yogurt. I think the mugs are very clear to understand as far as their use.

can you say 'loser...."

"disney" might care but i agree, the cms probably don't. and if the guy really can't read the mug, well maybe saying something would have had an effect but i doubt he really didn't know already, just figured if he could he would so he did

i don't know but i really think if someone is basically dishonest no amount of saying anything is going to stop them...just read some of the threads on here! unless Walt himself tells them, they'll find a :rotfl: "loop hole"

The sad thing is that anyone would even have to tell this person they need to pay for the yogurt.

But then read these forums and you will see a marked increase in; as long as you can get away with it, it's ok mentality.

Wasn't that mentality present right before the fall of Rome. ;)

I just try not to judge or let others ruin my time. Maybe he knew it was wrong, but maybe he didn't (he could even be a little slower than some?). You never know someones circumstance. I just try to do right and set a good example for my little ones.

When I was on the college program I remember being told that sometimes it's better just to ignore what's happening when it's something relatively small like that because the trade-off is causing a scene which disrupts more guests than the initial problem would. So while it may not seem like it to those that catch these people, it's Disney's way of making sure things are pleasant and "magical" for the other guests.

Why is it such a big deal to you? You posted a variation of the same question on another Disney board, and got the same type of answers (if you are the same person I am thinking of- Disney pin collector who is upset about the 1 table rule at CR pin trading events). My advice would be to LET IT GO!

***Edited to add: It is you!***

If I were there I would have pointed out to the Guest that the unlimited refills were for hot and cold soft drinks and as he was having a dessert that was not covered and should be paid for. I would have said this in range of the cashier.

I would effectively treat it just as I do if an adult attempts to enter through my turnstile with a child's ticket.

Does anyone really think it is worth it to Disney to risk embarrasing a guest at its flagship resort for such a minor infraction? People pay a premium to stay at the GF and resorts like that make huge money on repeat customers. I think its a wiser business decision not to make a scene with the guest. Certainly not worth it for a little yogurt which probably costs Disney next to nothing. Does it make it right? No.. But Disney is first and foremost, a business.

What the guest was doing isn't right, but what's Disney's options? They could confront the guest and either embarass them and upset them on their vacation or cause a scene that would upset the people around them - or - let it go and lose maybe 5 cents worth of ice cream.

I think certain battles aren't worth fighting, and Disney thinks some issues aren't worth making a big deal out of. Disney trusts people to use the mugs correctly but they sure arent going to yell at someone who puts the wrong thing in a mug.

I don't think it matters what resort you are at, rules are rules and not obeying them is wrong. There are ways in which to tell people they must follow the rules without causing a scene (unless that person is a psycho). A CM could have said something along the lines of "I'm sorry maybe you didn't realize the mug is only for drink refills not ice cream/frozen yogurt. Those item are for sale separately and in the future please use the (cups bowls whatever they have by them to be filled) for the ice cream/frozen yogurt because it is not included as refills in the mugs." If someone reacts strongly to that it is only because they are psycho or they have realized that they are in the wrong and are trying to deflect attention from themselves. I think if you present them with an "out" (such as "maybe you didn't realize"), most people tend to react better to a correction. I should add, I am a probation officer so like teachers I deal with behavior modifications and setting limits all the time, perhaps the cashiers in this area of the resort don't have that kind of experience. I can understand why they wouldn't "go there" with a guest.

It may have been in his refillable mug but who's to say the guy didn't actually PAY for the yogurt? I simply can't imagine worrying myself about something as minor as this especially if I have no idea of the full circumstances.

I have much more fun when I'm not watching what "rules" other people are breaking. :teeth:

My thoughts exactly! ;)
