SHOTS FIRED (metaphor) UPDATE: Orlando City part of MLS Soccer in 2015

They have yet to kick a ball in the league. I think it reeks of trying too hard on both of their accounts. Wait until you have some established tradition and let a rivalry naturally develop.

Thought so and I agree. I know it's much harder to have a traditional rivalry in American soccer but this just feels a little forced :)

I hope the teams are successful but the MLS doesn't have a good track record in Florida and I think Orlando City will have some issues but they may prove me wrong.

To be fair they are a popular USL team that played in the Citrus Bowl for the past 3 years (this year they will play at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. They've won 2 Championships in the past 3 years. They are totally a young franchise but, they have at least done some proving on the field. Miami jumped the line with Beckham and beat out places that deserve a team like Indy, St. Louis, Atlanta etc. Granted, I'd rather play in Miami than most of those.

I think it's a great way to build hype. Beckham vs. Disney's Team is how they are kind of trying to build it.

So Orlando's team is like Vancouver and Montreal who were both pre existing teams in a different league. I wonder if they will come up wit some sort of trophy or title for the two of them to compete for. An example of it Toronto and Columbus compete for the trillium cup , the team with the best record against each other keeps it at the end of the season.

Yeah, MLS is going into the USL and pulling teams which is good. I wish they'd get 20 teams for MLS and have the USL join. Do like most countries and have a division where the bottom three get relegated to USL and the top 3 of USL get promoted etc.

Yes, they need some sort of Florida Cup to compete for. Maybe the "Sunshine Shield" or an elegant looking pin for pin trading. :rotfl:

I am glad to hear that someone else felt Indy should have gotten a MLS team!!!

I guess we should just be satisfied with possibly getting Orlando's USL in Louisville and Indy's Indy Eleven (NASL).

Nahhhhhh...who am I kidding...I want the real deal! lol

What I know of Indiana, they seem to have great soccer support. St. Louis as well. Plus, there are close rivals with Columbus and Chicago. That said, I am glad they finally have some southern teams. I'm not so sure about Miami.

Ya as said OCSC has really good support for being a Minor League team playing in a dilapidated facility that's in the middle of the hood.

2 Regular Season Championships and 2 USL Playoff Championships in 2 years. They averaged over 8000 fans in the Citrus Bowl this past year, and got almost 21k in the championship game.

Playing at EWWOS this season with a 5900 capacity, they will probably come close to selling out every match. (I'm factoring in the drive, I know some of my friends won't be going to games this year since they won't want to drive down to Disney from Downtown.) But once the new stadium opens, I have no doubt that 12-15k will be the average attendance with numerous sellouts. I'll probably be getting season tickets since I can walk to the games.

I would trade any city with a MLS team for Nashville's NHL team. I guess I have to make Orlando my team since that is where I spend more time that has a team.

wow...not sure how I missed this thread for this long

anyway I'm super excited that Orlando City will be MLS in 2015 with a nice new stadium...I even bought season tix for this year as now I'll have two reason to drive down to the parks on weekends (and in a perfect world they will get FP+ fixed for AP holders and I can spend the morning in a park and the evening watching a game)

AC Milan and Brazil legend Kaká will play for them :)
