Shortening the length of a package?

If I book an 8 day package with 8 day MYW tickets and dining, could I decide later to shorten the room by a couple of days (and the dining would have to be as well ) and keep the 8 day passes? Would there be any problem with them letting me do this? We may decide later to split our stay with another Disney resort at the end of our vacation (room only). My concern is that the package not be cancelled completely to make this change as I don't want to lose the room category.

As long as you do it before 45 days prior to departure, you won't have any trouble. After 45 days they may charge a service fee. You can have any amount of days on your passes, regardless of how many nights you stay.

Thanks for you help. Will it still be the same reservation number if they take few room nights off the package? I want to make sure I don't lose the resort room category. Will they just make changes to my reservation, not cancel and make a new one?
