We will be giving a ride to a friend who is checking in at the Dolphin. I understand that guests must pay a daily rate to park, but is there somewhere (free) that we can park while waiting on him to check in? Or if we wanted to check out the resort for a few minutes while he was doing so? Thanks for any info. :)

There's no free parking. The valet staff won't let you just leave a vehicle out front. Parking is $9 - actually not that bad, if you want to spend an hour or so checking out the resort.

So if you pull up to register you have to immediately turn your car over to the valet?? Even if you are leaving in the next few minutes??

You should be able to drive up to the entrance and have your friend take out his bags without having assistance. There are two parking areas. If you drive up to the front entrance, that's where you would turn over your car to the valet if you wanted to. Otherwise, you'd go to the self parking and pay the $9. As long as someone stays with your vehicle and it's there for only a short period of time, you should be fine.

If you have someone stay with the car (so it can be moved if need be), then you should be fine out front while waiting a few minutes for your person to check-in. Doubt anyone will say anything to you, if you are with the car.

When do you pay the $9.00? And do they give you a ticket so that you don't pay again if you leave and come back?
