Here is a detailed question?

At the 11 mo. window, you want to book at your home resort, lets say for 60 points, but you only have 55 points available. Assuming you don't have points to bank or borrow, what is done? Do you book the 4 nights for points and cash for the 5th night?

If you have points in another contract that you transfer in, that is from a different home resort? Do you book 4 nights with the original contract at 11 mo. and have to wait to book the 5th night - until the 7 mo. window, with the transferred in points?

If points are not available to borrow, you can only book up to the 55 points. So yes, if you want five nights you would book the 4 nights plus the 1 night on cash through MS and ask them to link the reservation so you don't have to move. You would then bank any leftover points if the 4 nights used less than 55 points.

Yes, if you transfer points from another contract from different resort, those points maintain the characteristics and UY of the original points. So you would have to wait for the 7 month window in the example you cite.

You would also have used up your once per year transfer allowance on both contracts.

Make sure you truly have another contract and not just a subsequent contract (xxx.001, xxx.002, etc). You can use points between those, but not those with different use years without transferring.

Would you have to transfer in this situation, or could you just make a reservation with your second contract at the 7 month mark if the day is available then?

I agree. At he 7 month window I would simply make another reservation using my second account. No reason to use up the transfer.

I was assuming that the points from the first contract weren't exactly the amount needed to book the four nights, and that some points would be needed from the second contract to make up the point requirement for the fifth night.

You are right, though. The better way would be to just add the fifth day at the 7 month mark with the second contract and bank any leftover points from the first contract. Then there would be no need to transfer.

The OP asked about points that were transferred in, so I responded to that scenario rather than the better option you describe.

Thanks for the answers. I did not think about not transferring the points, daaaaaa. I does make sense just to book them at the 7 mo. window.

I am just starting to get the multi-contract concept.

Thanks everyone!
