My home resort is VB, but wanted to take a trip to Disney on fairly short notice, so last week I called for ressies for 3 nights at VWL Feb 10-13 in a 1BR. I first called and they told me I would have to wait list. I said I gotta think about it, talk to DW, and called back about an hour later. Rather than say anything about a wait list, I simply asked again about availability those dates at VWL and was told they were available, so I made the ressie. So yes, you can get in a DVC resort on short notice, even if it is not your home resort!
We have been members since 1996 ( Vero & OKW) and so far we have always been able to secure ressies at our desired resort and for the desired time period. I recall that once I made ressies at OKW 5 weeks in advance for the last week of July and was able to obtain it. Also....the first year we joined I made reservations in September for Christmas week in a 2 BR and was able to get that too which was a shocker at the time. I've also booked at HH and BW but did these ressies right at the 7 month window. When you read the boards, it appears that alot of people are having difficulty securing ressies, especially during peak holiday periods. Maybe I've just had a streak of good luck.
