Shopaholic Goes Disney.... A Pre-Trip Report (Updated 12/26)

Keep those pronunciations comin'!! This is hysterical!! I got so tickled about 'may-un' I busted out laughing--loud. That is soooo funny. Of course, I am sure you would all think I have a huge accent-but I,of course, don't notice it. When we travel to Disney most people guess Texas right off the bat--one lady tho kept sayin' are you sure its not North Carolina? NO! I have never even been to NC!!! We say 'coke' even tho it's usually DP or Root Beer, suckers, and Pah-Kahns. We don't say just theater, we also say 'the show'. OH, I know-my husband sometimes says" it's cold out'. That drives me nuts--its cold outSIDE!!! but his mom was from PA, so that's how he always heard it---def not a southern 'thang'. That's another one---nobody here says thIng, you gotta add the A in the middle!

You got to love Ya'll I was listening to a Christmas Radio Charity-a-thon the other day out of Mobile, AL and that lady kept say Ya'll it was hilarious!!!!!

I think I need to move south because I say y'all all the time...I'm no where near the south! :lmao:

Thanks, Soleil for the recipe..sounds wonderful!!! I'll give it a whirl for Christmastime, my family would love it!!

I know!! One more week..I just can't believe it's here already!!! :cheer2: One week from this moment, I"ll be having dinner at Raglan Road with my best friends and her family (who we haven't seen in over 6 months!!). Trip report....how do I start? How do I post pics? How do I get people to read?! Would love to do one......still willing to coach me? No pressure, at all, just seems like a lot to start and I would have to get the okay from my BFF to do one since her kids would be involved, too, you know?

Baby Cole is going in for a 24 hour EEG....should be pretty easy, in theory. He's been seeing a Pediatric neurologist for benign epilispy seizures since he was 7 mos. old and because we have refused to medicate (because he is not in pain, has deveoloped perfectly, we do not want him to be an experiment, and will outgrow this by 3) they asked if we would consider doing the EEG to track his episodes. I have noticed them less and less and know in my heart and soul he will be just fine...I wasn't so sure 6 months ago now, but feel good with this thought now. So, wish me luck and send prayers for me, I'm pretty sure that taking a 17 month old to have a million electrodes and wires coming from his head will be a nightmare since he will be trying to pull them off and try to run around....should be interesting and I'm not so sure I'll be getting any sleep that night since my DH will be home with the other two boys while I"m at Mass General with Cole. Thanks for asking, I appreciate it. :goodvibes

Okay...time to go and enjoy the fire with my DH and admire our tree! I hope that you have a nice night!!! :cutie:

I hope everything goes well with Cole.

I found this and thought it was interesting:

Contrary to popular belief, there is no single "Southern accent". Instead, there are a number of sub-regional dialects found across the Southern United States which are collectively known as Southern American English. However, these different varieties often share commonalities of accent and idiom easily distinguishable from that spoken in other regions of the United States and identify it as being "Southern", particularly to other Americans. Although different "Southern" dialects exist, they are all mutually intelligible, as are US and British English more broadly.

The 4 Dialects of Louisiana

Gulf Southern & Mississippi Delta
This area of the South was settled by English speakers moving west from Virginia, Georgia, and the Carolinas, along with French settlers from Louisiana (see the section below). This accent is common in Mississippi, northern Louisiana, Arkansas, western Tennessee, and East Texas. Familiar speakers include Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Dialects found in Georgia and Alabama that are not Southern Appalachian have characteristics of both the Gulf Southern dialect and the Virginia Piedmont/Coastal Southern dialect.

Cajun
Southern Louisiana, southeast Texas (Houston to Beaumont), and coastal Mississippi, feature a number of dialects. There is Cajun French, which combines elements of Acadian French with other French and Spanish words. This dialect is spoken by many of the older members of the Cajun ethnic group and is said to be dying out. Many younger Cajuns speak Cajun English, which retains Acadian French influences and words, such as "cher" (dear) or "nonc" (uncle). The French language can also still be heard in some parts of southern Louisiana.

Creole
Louisiana Creole French (Kreyol Lwiziyen) is a French-based creole language spoken in Louisiana. It has many resemblances to other French creoles in the Caribbean. While Cajun French and Louisiana Creole have had a significant influence on each other, they are unrelated. While Cajun is basically a French dialect with grammar similar to standard French, Louisiana Creole applies a French lexicon to a system of grammar and syntax which is quite different from French grammar.

Yat
In and around New Orleans, you can hear an accent similar to that of New York City. It is referred to as Yat, from the phrases such as "Where y'at?" for "How are you?" Additionally, many unique terms such as "neutral ground"[12] for the median of a divided street (Louisiana/Southern Mississippi) or "banquette"[13] for a sidewalk (Southern Louisiana/Eastern Texas) are found here.

I love the way Canadians say the word "sorry". :thumbsup2

Do you mean the way we pronounce it - SO -REE, or just the fact that we say the word A LOT! :rotfl:

You ought to come up to my city - we say sorry so much that we have have become affectionately known as the "sorriest city in Ontario":lmao: Really! I happen to think we are just really nice people who care about others' feelings! :)

I would be so tickled if I came to Ontario. Everytime a person would say "so-ree", I would probably giggle and ask them to say it again.:rotfl:

I love how Canadians end everything in --Eh (pronounced AY)! I have a friend Danielle who lives in Canada and she would say it and I would crack up every single time...it is so cute LOL!!!

Hey Bella Soleil! Just read through your PTR, your family is beautiful! :) Me and my boyfriend are getting to the Wilderness Lodge on Jan 4th, maybe we'll see y'all around!

It's one of the additions to my PTR... If I ever get one started I plan on doing one episode on my wedding.

That's not fair...I got all excited about seeing your wedding dress and reading your PTR LOL!!! I say go for it LOL!!

Living in Buffalo, we get a lot of Canadians (shopping, sporting events, etc.) We hear the accent all the time! A friend of mine on my dance team was born in Canada and says 'eh' once in awhile! It's cute!

Ok...I love what I've read of your PTR!! :lovestruc

First of all, you, G, and Belle are PRECIOUS! Honestly, yall are one of the best looking families I've ever seen! ;) I read you're from the south, so hopefully you won't be offended by my "yall"! :rotfl: I LOVE all of your pictures! So fun!

You're going to have the most amazing trip! :woohoo: I can't wait to hear all about it! And if yall choose to take Belle in September, maybe we'll run into each other! How fun! :yay:

Oh my goodness--I can't imagine finding out I'm pregnant 3 months after we get married! Everyone keeps telling me we will. :scared1: That is NOT in the plan! We want to wait about 5 years so we have plenty of selfish-just-you-and-me time! But having said that, if we do have a surprise, I'll be thrilled to death after the shock wears off...I've wanted to be a mommy my whole life!

Well, good luck with the rest of the planning!!! So fun! :dance3:

We were very surprised, but wanted to have children quickly because my husband is a bit older. I can't imagine life any other way, but I do sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have a year or two to ourselves. Enjoy being young and babies will come when God says it is time.:goodvibes

My husband and I are on year 6 of selfish me and him time...but we hope to start a family soon LOL!!!

And I have to agree with you Soleil, G, and Belle are one gorgeous family!!

Soleil-BAD BAD INFLUENCE! I finished reading up on the Snowbirds and thought I'd take a peek at your PTR...I am supposed to be doing dishes NOT Dising!! I totally got sucked in and I didn't even read all the way thru, just skimmed every few pages!

You and your family are gorgeous! Love reading all the info. Will be checking back. BTW-I too wanted and planned to be a dancer all my life. Went away to college and freaked because I was away from my family. Quit that school after about a month, came home, didn't get back into dance except for two years of college cheerleading (not that it's technically "dancing" but it kept me in shape for a while anyway). Not a tragic story like yours, but I understand the angst of "well, now what do I do??"

I actually had a dream about getting pregnant right away last night! :scared1: But we've talked about it, and if we start a family earlier than planned, it'll be ok b/c it'll obviously be God's plan...and I'm sure we'll be super excited after the shock wears off :rotfl: But at the same time, we're super excited about selfish time! :woohoo:
jenjolt, have yall gotten to have tons of fun experiences? What are your best/favorites? We're wanting to have a list of fun stuff we want to do before we start a fam!

We've done a huge amount of little excursions...when we lived in Alaska during the summer we went on a lot of gorgeous hikes. We took the train to Denali National Park (Mt. McKinley). We went to Valdez and camped. I would go fishing with him, I draw the line at hunting LOL! We even went out and cut down our own Christmas tree one year. In Florida we love to go on hikes on the beaches in the area. We do special things like we have a themed Christmas this year, he wants some hunting and fishing things along with clothes and I of course choose DISNEY LOL

Okay I'm done hijacking Soleil's thread LOL!!! Hope you are having a great day EVERYONE!!

Having one planned and one not planned baby, I can tell you are never prepared. DS was not planned and DD was. Long story but, DH Company was sold to a different company and that company stop paying our insurance premiums even though they were still taking the money out of DH's and the other employees pay check each week. We did not found out till I want for my 6month check up, and the office told me. We could not get on the cobra plan, and had to take out a loan to pay for the OB/GYN and hospital.
For DD first three years, I was making payments on her.:rotfl:
So my theory is don’t plan, just let it happen.
