I have DD (6) and DS (4), and we are taking our first WDW trip in June! CAn't wait! WE are planning to take a stroller - not sure if it will be the double or single. But, I'm trying to get them used to walking, too.

Do you suggest just regular tennis shoes, or something else for kids?

Need to get something for myself, too, so I'd love to hear those suggestions, too.

DS has always worn tennis shoes. DD wore sandals when she was 19 months, because she didn't really do that much walking, but on trips after that, she has worn tennis shoes. I still take sandals as a back up in case of rain or something and the shoes need to dry out. I take water shoes for the water parks as well.

wear whatever they are most comfy in . DW isnt the time to break in new shoes. You might want to bring water shoes so they can play in the sprinklers in the parks plus if it rains they can splash in the puddles !!

They're likely to be more active than you anticipate! Perhaps not when you most want them to be (on the way to bus or car after a long day in the park), but they probably will do a fair amount of walking.

Two pairs of shoes each--be sure they fit properly and don't irritate the feet. Can you take some family walks to be sure everyone's shoes are well-broken in? Perhaps two or three nights or mornings each week and on weekends?

And definitely some kind of shoes/sandals/flip-flops/Crocs that can be worn in wet conditions (play fountains, pool, rain, etc.) for each person. They also double as slippers! :)

My kids all wear a good pair of supportive running sneakers and socks. We also bring their Crocs for the pool and around the resort.
No complaints in all of the trips we have taken!:)

We go when it's really hot (July, August), and my kids always wear tennis shoes with socks. No blisters for us that way.

Tennis shoes with socks seem the most logical & safest choice. You want the support & to avoid blisters. I dont know if kids sneakers have the variations that adults do, but assuming they do, cross trainers, runners, & walkers all should work. Please dont make them do Disney type walking in sandals.

I would highly recommend Tevas for your kids. They are comfy and water proof sandals that have cute patterned velcro straps...help keep footsies cool and won't rub blisters. My ds (3) has a pair and loves them. And the best part...they can be washed right off in the sink with some water!! ;)

Ps- They run a little big...just FYI!

First trip, one dd wore tennis shoes, other wore water shoes. She was comfy in those for some reason. Second trip, they both wore crocs (with socks I think) and I didn't hear many feet complaints. I did hear them asking DH for lots of piggy back rides though.

My dd (almost 7) in August will most likely be wearing flip flops. She loves them & will live in them all winter if I let her. I will bring sneakers as a just in case.

I am sure my ds (4) will want his flip flps too. And my 2 yo I don't know what to do-sneakers & some type of sandal but she wants flip flops like her older siblings.

My kids feet sweat so I want them to air out in that hot August sun.

My boys will be in their keens again this year..they are great in water, dry fast, very supportive (think sneaker support/sandle comfort)and protect their little toes ! they are a bit pricey but after a full season in them last year I could put them on a store shelf and they look brand new . We have these for the second year http://www.onlineshoes.com/productpage.asp?gen=m&pcid=78351. They are leather but fully washable. they also make a nylon webbing one (newport H2) http://www.rei.com/product/747802. i find they run a bit small..both times we bought them both boys needed a size bigger then they wear.

When we go to WDW in the warmer months, I want my boys to have waterproof shoes on because I KNOW they will get wet. :) For the past few years I've been buying my boys Teva Psyclones, I (and they) love them!! I just recently ordered new ones (directly from the Teva website) for this year. :)
